Madonna is the debut studio album by American singer Madonna, released on July 27, 1983, by Sire Records. In the late 1970s, Madonna had established herself as a singer in downtown New York City; alongside her Michigan boyfriend Stephen Bray, she put together a demo tape with four dance tracks and began pitching it around local nightclubs. "4 Minutes" is a song by American singer Madonna from her eleventh studio album Hard Candy (2008), featuring vocals by fellow American singer Justin Timberlake and American producer Timbaland. According to Madonna, the song is about saving the environment and "having a good time while we are doing it". Let's Dance is the fifteenth studio album by the English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released on 14 April 1983 through EMI America Records. Co-produced by Bowie and Nile Rodgers, the album was recorded in December 1982 at the Power Station in New York City. The sessions featured players from Rodgers' band Chic and the then-unknown Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead guitar. For the first time on an album, Bowie only sang and played no instruments.

Bad is the seventh studio album by the American singer Michael Jackson. It was released on August 31, 1987, by Epic Records. The album was highly anticipated, taking three years to produce between 1985 and 1987, and was Jackson's third and final collaboration with producer Quincy Jones. Jackson adopted a heavier sound and incorporated new digital synthesizer technology. A dance-pop and R&B album, Jackson composed and co-produced all but two tracks on it, which discusses celebrity, romance, world peace, and self-improvement. The album features appearances from Siedah Garrett and Stevie Wonder.

Following the enormous success of his previous album, Thriller (1982), Jackson's public profile rose. Bad represented a new phase in Jackson's career, as he faced greater expectations than ever before. Jackson’s radical new image, including his facial surgeries, generated backlash and a decline in popularity in the US. Girls Aloud are a British-Irish pop girl group that was created through the ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The line up consisted of members Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. In 2012, the group was named Britain's biggest selling girl group of the 21st century so far, with over 4.3 million singles sales and 4.0 million albums sold in the UK. The group achieved a string of twenty top-ten singles on the UK singles chart, including four number ones. They also achieved seven BPI certified albums, two of which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. They have been nominated for five Brit Awards and won one of them, Best Single in 2009 for "The Promise".
