The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge (Turkish: Yavuz Sultan Selim Köprüsü), also known as the Third Bosphorus Bridge, is a vehicular bridge over the Bosphorus strait, to the north of Istanbul's two older suspension bridges, the 15 July Martyrs Bridge being the First Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge the Second Bosphorus Bridge. The bridge is located near the entrance to the Black Sea from the Bosphorus strait, between Garipçe in Sarıyer on the European side and Poyrazköy in Beykoz on the Asian side.

The foundation stone was laid on 29 May 2013 and the bridge opened to traffic on 26 August 2016.

The Bosphorus Bridge (Turkish: Boğaziçi Köprüsü), known officially as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge (Turkish: 15 Temmuz Şehitler Köprüsü) and colloquially as the First Bridge (Turkish: Birinci Köprü), is the oldest and southernmost of the three suspension bridges spanning the Bosphorus strait (Turkish: Boğaziçi) in Istanbul, Turkey, thus connecting Europe and Asia (alongside the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge). The bridge extends between Ortaköy (in Europe) and Beylerbeyi (in Asia).

It is a gravity-anchored suspension bridge with steel towers and inclined hangers. The aerodynamic deck hangs on steel cables. It is 1,560 m (5,118 ft) long with a deck width of 33.40 m (110 ft). The distance between the towers (main span) is 1,074 m (3,524 ft) and the total height of the towers is 165 m (541 ft). The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m (210 ft).

Otoyol 3 (English: Motorway 3), also known as the European Motorway (Turkish: Avrupa Otoyolu) and abbreviated as the O-3 is a 245.1 km (152.3 mi) long otoyol in East Thrace, Turkey. The O-3 runs from Edirne to Istanbul and is the only motorway in Turkey located entirely in Europe. The motorway begins west of Edirne at "Edirne Batı K1" junction with the D.100 where it then continues as a beltway passing just north of Edirne. From there, the motorway passes through mostly rural farmland until it enters the Istanbul metropolis near Silivri. The eastern end of O-3 ends at the Istanbul Bağcılar "Mahmutbey Batı K20" Junction.

The last junction of the European motorway "Mahmutbey Doğu K20" connects to O-2 motorway (2nd Beltway) and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge in the east direction, to 1st Beltway (O-1) with the O3-O1 connection road in the south direction. The motorway has six lanes, three in each direction, except for a 44.6 km (27.7 mi) section between Silivri and Esenyurt.

The Otoyol 7 (O-7; English: Motorway 7), or Northern Marmara Motorway (Turkish: Kuzey Marmara Otoyolu), is a toll motorway in Turkey that bypasses Istanbul to the north. The motorway is 248 km in length between the Kınalı junction and the Akyazı junction, and is 8 lanes wide (4+4 lanes).Within the scope of the Build-Operate-Transfer Model Construction, Operation and Transfer of Kınalı-Odayeri (Including Connection Roads) Section (North Marmara Europan Motorway) and Kurtköy-Akyazı (Including Connection Roads) Section (North Marmara Anatolian Motorway) of the Northern Marmara Motorway (Including the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge) Project, it is composed of two separate authorized companies, namely "AVRUPA OTOYOLU YATIRIM VE İŞLETME AŞ". on the European side and "KMO ANADOLU OTOYOLU İŞLETME AŞ". on the Asian side.

The completed section of highway crosses the Bosphorus Strait via the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which was opened in August 2016. The route is intended to serve as the outermost beltway of Istanbul as well as being the third road crossing of the Bosphorus. The route stretches 250 km (160 mi) from Silivri, on the European side, to Akyazı on the Asian side. Connections to the O-4 as well as both the Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges will be built as the Northern Marmara Motorway and will bypass Istanbul to the north.

Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in the context of Cable-stayed suspension bridge

A cable-stayed suspension bridge or CSS bridge merges the designs of cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges. The suspension bridge's architecture is better at handling the load in the middle of the bridge, while the cable stayed bridge is better suited to handle the load closest to the tower. Combining these two architectural engineering ideas into a hybrid has been done in Istanbul with the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, and in New York City with the Brooklyn Bridge. A bridge over the Krishna River in India has been approved in October 2022 that will be a CSS bridge design.
