Padua (/ˈpædjuə/ PAD-ew-ə) is a city and comune (municipality) in Veneto, northern Italy, and the capital of the province of Padua. The city lies on the banks of the river Bacchiglione, 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of Venice and 29 km (18 miles) southeast of Vicenza. With a population of 207,694 as of 2025, Padua is the third-largest city in Veneto. It is also the economic and communications hub of the area. Padua is sometimes included, with Venice and Treviso, in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE) which has a population of around 2,600,000.

Besides the Bacchiglione, the Brenta River, which once ran through the city, still touches the northern districts. Its agricultural setting is the Venetian Plain. To the city's south west lies the Euganaean Hills, which feature in poems by Lucan, Martial, Petrarch, Ugo Foscolo, and Percy Bysshe Shelley.

The Sile (Venetian: Sil) is a 95 km river in the Veneto region in north-eastern Italy. Its springs are in the municipality of Vedelago in the Province of Treviso. It flows into the northern part of the Lagoon of Venice at the mouth of the River Piave Vecchia. It receives the waters of its tributary, the Botteniga, at Treviso.

Some of the rivers in the plain of the Veneto come from springs in the nearby Alps, while others have groundwater springs in the plain. The Sile originates in the plain and therefore it is a short river. Its springs are in the area of Albaredo, Casacorba and Cavasagra in the municipality of Vedelago. The fontanasso dea Coa Longa is considered to be the main spring. Two initial branches join at Morgano. The river has an initial west-east windy course which passes through or by Santa Cristina, Quinto di Treviso, Canizzano and Treviso. In Treviso it turns in a northwest-southeast direction towards the lagoon and passes by Silea, Casier, Cendon, Lughignano, Sant'Elena, Casale sul Sile, Quarto d'Altino, Trepalade and Portegrandi.

Pope Benedict XI (Latin: Benedictus XI; 1240 – 7 July 1304), born Nicola Boccasini (Niccolò of Treviso), was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 22 October 1303 to his death on 7 July 1304.

Boccasini entered the Order of Preachers in his native Treviso. He studied at Venice and Milan before becoming a teacher in Venice and in other Dominican houses. He served two terms as Provincial Prior of Lombardy, before being elected Master of the Order in 1296. Two years later he was made cardinal. He was appointed Bishop of Ostia, and served as papal legate first to Hungary, and then to France. He was with Pope Boniface VIII when Boniface was attacked by French forces at Anagni.

The Padua–Treviso–Venice metropolitan area (PaTreVe) or Venice city–region is the urban agglomeration centred on the cities of Padova, Treviso, and Venice in the Veneto region of northeast Italy. It is defined statistically and does not correspond to a single area of local government. Administratively it comprises the communes (municipalities) of the three cities plus another 240 communes (104 in the province of Padua, 95 in the province of Treviso and 44 in the province of Venice).

The metropolitan area has a total population of 2,600,000.

Vedelago (Venetian: Vedeàgo) is a comune (municipality) of estimated population of 16,474 in the Province of Treviso in the Italian region Veneto, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northwest of Venice, about 45 kilometres (28 mi) east of Vicenza, about 44 kilometres (27 mi) north of Padua and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Treviso.

The main attraction is the Villa Emo, by Andrea Palladio, in the frazione Fanzolo.

The Botteniga is a river in northern Italy. It is a distributary of the Piave, and meets the Sile at Treviso after descending approximately 60 metres over its 20 kilometre course.

Morgano is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Treviso in the Italian region Veneto, located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of Venice and about 12 kilometres (7 mi) west of Treviso.

Morgano borders the following municipalities: Istrana, Paese, Piombino Dese, Quinto di Treviso, Zero Branco.

Quinto di Treviso is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Treviso in the Italian region Veneto, located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northwest of Venice and about 7 kilometres (4 mi) southwest of Treviso.
