Amer (Catalan pronunciation: [əˈmeɾ]) is a municipality in the comarca of la Selva in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
From 1895, Amer was linked to Girona by the narrow gauge Olot–Girona railway, which was extended to Les Planes d'Hostoles in 1900, Sant Feliu de Pallerols in 1902 and Olot in 1911. The line closed in 1969 and has since been converted into a greenway.
The Ter (Catalan: [ˈtɛɾ]) is a river in Catalonia, Spain. It rises in the Ulldeter, a glacial cirque in the East Pyrenees, at an approximate elevation of 2,400 metres (7,900 ft). At heights of around 3,000 metres (9,800 ft), the nearby peaks bordering the Ulldeter—the Bastiments, the Gra de Fajol, and the Pic de la Dona—supply its headwaters. The river runs through the comarques of Ripollès, Osona, Selva, Gironès, and Baix Empordà , discharging into the Mediterranean Sea at l'Estartit.
The Ter follows a course of 208 kilometres (129 mi) and drains an area of approximately 3,010 square kilometres (1,160 mi); its basin is described by a dendritic (branching, tree-like) and exorheic drainage pattern. Annually, an average of 840 cubic hectometres (680,000 acre⋅ft) of water is moved by the river, with an average flow rate of 25 cubic metres per second (880 cu ft/s) at its mouth. Although its headwaters are in the Pyrenees, the Ter receives significant inflow from rivers in the middle and lower plains. Thus it is susceptible to flooding in both the spring and the autumn.
Comarques Gironines (Catalan pronunciation: [kuˈmar.kəs ʒi.ɾuˈni.nəs]; English: Girona counties) or the Girona region is the northeasternmost of the nine regions (vegueries) of Catalonia. It has an area of 5,558 km² and 761,690 inhabitants as of 2022.
Located by the border with Northern Catalonia in France, the region includes the counties of Gironès, Alt Empordà , Baix Empordà , Garrotxa, Pla de l'Estany, Ripollès and Selva. Within Catalonia, it borders Alt Pirineu to the west, Central Catalonia to the south-west and Barcelona to the south.
Gironès (Catalan: [ʒiɾuˈnɛs]; Spanish: Gironés) is a comarca (county) in eastern Catalonia, Spain, bordering Selva, Baix Empordà , Alt Empordà , Pla de l'Estany and Garrotxa. As of 2008, more than half of the comarca's 175,148 inhabitants live in the capital, Girona, which is also the capital of the Girona region and Spanish province.
Blanes (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈblanəs]) is a town and municipality in the comarca of Selva in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. During Roman rule it was named Blanda or Blandae. It is known as the "Gateway to the Costa Brava". Its coast is part of the Costa Brava, which stretches from Blanes to the French border. The township is 18.29 km (7.06 sq mi). Blanes is a popular tourist town, and it is known for the Concurs de Focs d'Artifici during the Santa Anna festival; this event includes many fireworks. Other places of interest include botanical gardens, coves such as the Cala Bona, and beaches that are surrounded by mountains.
