Central Expressway is a north–south highway in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas (USA) and surrounding areas. The best-known section is the North Central Expressway, a name for a freeway section of U.S. Highway 75 between downtown Dallas and Van Alstyne, Texas. The southern terminus is south of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway at exit 284C of "hidden" Interstate 345 (signed as Interstate 45 southbound and US 75 northbound). From there, Central Expressway becomes the South Central Expressway, the northernmost portion of which was renamed César Chávez Boulevard on April 9, 2010.

Interstate 345 (I-345) is an unsigned 1.4-mile-long (2.3 km) Auxiliary Interstate Highway in the city of Dallas within the US state of Texas. It is a freeway that connects I-45 (which ends at the interchange with I-30) with U.S. Highway 75 (US 75; North Central Expressway) at State Highway Spur 366 (Spur 366; Woodall Rodgers Freeway). Few maps actually display the road as I-345; signposts on the road show US 75 northbound, while southbound the highway is signed as I-45. In recent years, a debate over whether to maintain or decommission I-345 has received increased attention from several Dallas media outlets. TxDOT elected to maintain the freeway by lowering it below ground and removing frontage roads.

The Arts District is a performing and visual arts district in downtown Dallas, Texas.

The district is 118 acres (0.47 km) large and is home to some of Dallas’ most significant cultural landmarks including facilities for visual, performing, and developing arts. It is located south of State Thomas; southeast of Uptown; north of the City Center District; west of Bryan Place; and east of the West End Historic District. It is bounded by St. Paul Street, Ross Avenue, Spur 366 (Woodall Rodgers Freeway), and the US 75/I-45 (unsigned I-345) elevated freeway (Central Expressway). (Previously the district extended east only to Routh Street, but a 9 March 2005 Dallas City Council approval extended it east to I-345.) The Arts District is a member of the Global Cultural Districts Network. In 2025, USA Today named the Dallas Arts District as the best art district in America for a creative escape for the second consecutive year.

Central Expressway (Dallas) in the context of Downtown Dallas

Downtown Dallas is the central business district (CBD) of Dallas, Texas, United States, located in the geographic center of the city. It is the second-largest business district in the state of Texas. The area termed "Downtown" has traditionally been defined as bounded by the downtown freeway loop, bounded on the east by I-345 (although known and signed as the northern terminus of I-45 and the southern terminus of US 75 (Central Expressway), on the west by I-35E, on the south by I-30, and on the north by Woodall Rodgers Freeway.

The strong organic growth of Downtown Dallas since the early 2000s and continuing into the present has now resulted in Downtown Dallas, Inc.'s expansion of the term "Downtown" to include the explosive growth occurring immediately north of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway in the Victory Park and Uptown/Turtle Creek Districts, as well as past Central Expressway to the east in the Deep Ellum and Bryan Place Districts, past Interstate 30 to the south with the Cedars District, and jumping over Interstate 35E to the west to include the Design District and Lower Oak Lawn. In total, 15 districts now form "Downtown".

Central Expressway (Dallas) in the context of Texas State Highway Spur 366

Spur 366, also named the Woodall Rodgers Freeway, is a freeway that connects Beckley Avenue and Singleton Boulevard in West Dallas to Interstate 35E, Interstate 345 and U.S. Route 75 (North Central Expressway) in central Dallas, Texas. The highway, as part of the downtown freeway loop, also serves as a dividing line between downtown Dallas on the south and the Uptown and Victory Park neighborhoods on the north.

In 2012 the Santiago Calatrava designed Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge was opened, extending Woodall Rodgers west of I-35E across the Trinity River, into West Dallas. The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge is first of three planned bridges of the Trinity River Project.

State Thomas is a Dallas Landmark District in the Uptown area of Dallas, Texas (USA). It borders downtown to the south at Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Bryan Place to the east at US 75 (Central Expressway), and LoMac to the north and west.

The State Thomas neighborhood contains the largest collection of Victorian-era homes remaining in Dallas including the Jacob and Eliza Spake House listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The establishment of the region as a Special Purpose District in 1986 helped make it one of the first new urbanist regions in the city.

Central Expressway (Dallas) in the context of Uptown Dallas

Uptown is a PID (public improvement district) and a dense neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. Uptown is north of and adjacent to downtown Dallas, and is bordered by US 75 (Central Expressway) on the east, N Haskell Avenue on the northeast, the Katy Trail on the northwest, Bookhout Street and Cedar Springs Road on the west, N Akard Street on the southwest and Spur 366 (Woodall Rodgers Freeway) on the south.

Uptown is one of the most pedestrian-friendly areas in all of Texas. It is largely "new urbanist" in scope; the majority of facilities considered "Uptown institutions" are relatively new and were created during the late 20th and early 21st Centuries' new urbanist urban planning movement. Popular with young professionals, mixed-use development is the norm and an increasingly pedestrian culture continues to thrive.
