Kavala (Greek: Καβάλα, Kavála [kaˈvala]) is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit.

It is situated on the Bay of Kavala, across from the island of Thasos and on the A2 motorway, a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Thessaloniki (160 kilometres (99 miles) west) and a forty-minute drive to Drama (37 km (23 miles) north) and Xanthi (56 km (35 miles) east). It is also about 150 kilometers west of Alexandroupoli.

Katerini (Greek: Κατερίνη, Kateríni, pronounced [kateˈrini]) is a city and municipality in northern Greece, the capital city of Regional Unit of Pieria in Central Macedonia, Greece. It lies on the Pierian plain, between Mount Olympus and the Thermaikos Gulf, at an altitude of 14 m. The municipality of Katerini has a population of 82,892 (according to the 2021 census). It is the second most populous urban area in the region of Macedonia after Thessaloniki. The close distance between the two cities (68 km), has been beneficial for Katerini's development over recent years. Katerini is accessible from the A1/E75 Athens–Thessaloniki motorway (with the Katerini's South, East and North interchanges) and the A2 motorway to the north. It is served by Intercity, Proastiakos (suburban train) and local trains on the main Athens-Thessaloniki railway line and there is a comprehensive regional and national bus service with its hub in the city.

A popular tourist destination in northern Greece, Katerini is close to the sea (7 km) and to several archaeological sites of great interest such as the ancient city of Dion (5th century BC, 17 km away), ancient Leivithra (27 km away), ancient Pydna (16 km away) and the Castle of Platamon. The beaches of Kallithea, Korinos, Olympiaki Akti (or Katerinoskala), Paralia (where the 3rd Port Authority Department of Skala Katerini is located), Peristasi are visited by both Greek and foreign tourists during the summer season. The base of Mount Olympus and the town of Litochoro, are at a distance of around 20 km from the center of Katerini. The ski center of Elatochori in Mount Pieria is at a distance of 33.4 km from the city's center.

National Road 20 (Greek: Εθνική Οδός 20, abbreviated as EO20) is a single carriageway road in northwestern Greece. It links the cities of Ioannina and Kozani via Konitsa and Siatista. It passes through the Ioannina, Kastoria and the Kozani regional units. Since the opening of the A2 motorway (Egnatia Odos), it is no longer the fastest connection between Kozani and Ioannina. The section between Ioannina and Kalpaki is part of the European route E853.

Igoumenitsa (Greek: Ηγουμενίτσα, romanized: Igoumenítsa) is a coastal city in northwestern Greece. It is the capital of the regional unit of Thesprotia.

Igoumenitsa is the chief port of Thesprotia and Epirus, and one of the largest passenger ports of Greece, connecting northwestern Mainland Greece with the Ionian Islands and Italy. The city is built on the easternmost end of the Gulf of Igoumenitsa in the Ionian Sea and primary aspects of the economy are maritime, transport, services, agriculture and tourism. The 670 km (420 mi) long A2 motorway (Egnatia Odos), which serves northern Greece, terminates at Igoumenitsa, making it a popular starting point for tourists coming from Europe and ending point for trucks from Turkey.

Chasia (Greek: Χάσια) is a forested mountain range in the northern Trikala (Thessaly) and the southern Grevena (Western Macedonia) regional units, northern Greece. It is an eastern extension of the Pindus mountain range. The elevation of its highest peak, Kratsovo, is 1,564 m (5,131 ft). It stretches from the village Korydallos in the west to Kerasoula in the east, over a length of about 35 km (22 mi). The nearest mountains are the Antichasia to the south, the Kamvounia to the northeast and the Lygkos (northern Pindus) to the west. It is drained by tributaries of the Aliakmonas to the north, and by the Pineios and its tributary Mourgkani to the south.

Two municipal units were named after the mountains: Chasia, Grevena and Chasia, Trikala. Villages in the Chasia mountains include Kakoplevri and Oxyneia in the west, Agiofyllo, Trikokkia and Achladea Skiti in the central part and Asprokklisia and Kerasoula in the east. The A2 Egnatia Odos motorway (Igoumenitsa - Ioannina - Kozani - Thessaloniki) runs west of the mountains, and the Greek National Road 15 (Kalambaka - Grevena - Kastoria) passes through the central part of the mountains.

Grevena (Greek: Γρεβενά, Grevená [ɣreveˈna]; Aromanian: Grebini) is a town and municipality in Western Macedonia, northern Greece, capital of the Grevena regional unit. The town's current population is 12,515 citizens (2021). It lies about 420 kilometres (261 miles) from Athens and about 180 km (112 miles) from Thessaloniki. The municipality's population is 25,905. Grevena has had access to the A2 motorway (Egnatia Odos) since the early 2000s, which now connects Igoumenitsa with Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli at the border with Turkey. Mountains surround the municipality, which is situated by the river Greveniotikos, which itself flows into the Aliakmon. Other significant towns in the municipality are Amygdaliés and Méga Seiríni. Grevena Municipal Museum is located in the town.

Vourinos (Greek: Βούρινος) is a mountain range covering the eastern Grevena and southern Kozani regional units in Greece. Its highest elevation is 1,866 metres (6,122 ft). Its length is approximately 30 km (19 mi) from northwest to southeast. It is drained by the river Aliakmonas and its tributaries. There are forests on the northern slopes and the lower areas, the higher elevations are covered with grasslands. The nearest mountain ranges are Askio to the north and Kamvounia to the southeast.

The nearest villages are Chromio to the east, Palaiokastro to the northwest and Pontini to the southwest. The nearest larger towns are Grevena to the west and Kozani to the northeast. The A2 motorway (Igoumenitsa - Ioannina - Kozani - Thessaloniki - Alexandroupoli) and the Greek National Road 20 (Kozani - Konitsa - Ioannina) pass along its northern edge.

Askio (Greek: Άσκιο; Pronunciation: As•ki•o) is a mountain range in the northwestern part of the Kozani and the eastern part of the Kastoria regional units in northern Greece. The elevation of its highest peak, Siniatsiko, is 2,111 m (6,926 ft). There are forests in the northern part. It stretches from the village Kleisoura in the northwest to Xirolimni in the southeast, over a length of about 30 km (19 mi). The nearest mountains are the Verno to the northwest, the Vourinos to the south and the Vermio to the northeast. It is drained by tributaries of the Aliakmonas to the west and south, and towards the Lake Vegoritida to the northeast.

The nearest towns are Siatista to the south, Ptolemaida to the northeast and Kozani to the southeast. Mountain villages in the Askio mountains include Vlasti in the central part, Eratyra and Skiti in the south and Milochori, Anarrachi, Variko and Kleisoura in the north. The A2 Egnatia Odos motorway (Igoumenitsa - Ioannina - Kozani - Thessaloniki) runs south of the mountains.
