Workers' Party (Singapore) in the context of "15th Parliament of Singapore"

The Parliament of Singapore is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Singapore, which governs the country alongside the President of Singapore. Based on the Westminster system, it consists of elected Members of Parliament (MPs), non-constituency MPs (NCMPs) and Nominated MPs (NMPs). Following the 2025 general election, 97 MPs from two political parties, the governing People's Action Party (PAP) and the opposition Workers' Party (WP), were elected to the 15th Parliament. 2 NCMPs from the latter were also appointed ("elected" in the language of Singaporean law). Nine NMPs are usually appointed by the president on a biennial basis.

The Speaker of Parliament presides over sittings and oversees the administration of Parliament. The Leader of the House is appointed by the prime minister to manage government business and the legislative programme, while the Leader of the Opposition leads the largest political party not in government. Some work is carried out by select committees of MPs. Standing committees are permanent, while ad hoc committees are established to examine specific matters, including bills. Selected backbenchers of the PAP serve on Government Parliamentary Committees (GPCs) to review policies, programmes, and proposed legislation of government ministries.

The leader of the opposition of Singapore is a position in the Parliament of Singapore referring to a politician who leads the largest opposition party in the country, typically the leader of a party that possesses the most seats in Parliament that is not the governing party or part of a governing coalition. Although the position has de facto existed since 1955, it was formally established in 2020, with Pritam Singh of the Workers' Party (WP) serving since 24 August 2020.

The 6th Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. Its first session commenced on 25 February 1985 and was prorogued on 27 January 1986. It commenced its second session on 20 February 1986 and was dissolved on 17 August 1988.

The members of the 6th Parliament were elected in the 1984 general election. Parliament was controlled by a People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his Cabinet. The Speaker was Dr Yeoh Ghim Seng. The de facto Leader of the Opposition was J. B. Jeyaretnam of the Workers' Party until he lost his parliamentary seat following his convictions, and was replaced by Chiam See Tong of the Singapore Democratic Party.

The 14th Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. It opened on 24 August 2020 and dissolved on 15 April 2025. The membership was set by the 2020 general election, held on 10 July. The final sitting for the term was on 8 April 2025, to discuss on the consensus relating the tariffs imposed by President of the United States Donald Trump a week prior.

The 14th Parliament was controlled by the People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and members of the cabinet, which assumed power on 25 July 2020; it was then later led by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and its inaugural cabinet, who assumed power on 15 May 2024. The initial number of seats of parliament at the start of the term was 104, with 10 seats from the Workers' Party led by Pritam Singh, two Non-Constituency Member of Parliament seats from the Progress Singapore Party, and nine Nominated Members. This is also the first time where the position for the Leader of the Opposition was officialised.
