Western Finland in the context of "Southern Finland"

Paimio (Finnish: [ˈpɑi̯mio]; Swedish: Pemar) is a town and municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region. The municipality has a population of 11,241 (30 June 2025) and covers an area of 242.26 square kilometres (93.54 sq mi) of which 3.89 km (1.50 sq mi) is water. The population density is 47.13 inhabitants per square kilometre (122.1/sq mi). The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Ostrobothnia (Swedish: Österbotten; Finnish: Pohjanmaa) is a region in western Finland. It borders the regions of Central Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia, and Satakunta. It is one of six regions that together form historical Ostrobothnia, hence it is also referred to as Coastal Ostrobothnia to avoid confusion.

Ostrobothnia is one of two Finnish regions with a Swedish-speaking majority (the other being the constitutionally monolingual province of Åland); Swedish-speakers make up 51.2% of the total population. The region contains thirteen bilingual municipalities and one that is exclusively Finnish-speaking. The capital of Vaasa is predominantly inhabited by Finnish speakers, whereas smaller towns and rural areas are generally dominated by the Swedish language. The three municipalities with the largest number of Swedish speakers are Korsholm, Jakobstad and Pedersöre.

Joutsa is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. Jyväskylä is located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) north of the Joutsa municipality.

The municipality has a population of 4,097(30 June 2025) and covers an area of 1,066.42 square kilometres (411.75 sq mi) ofwhich 199.25 km (76.93 sq mi)is water. The population density is4.73 inhabitants per square kilometre (12.3/sq mi).

Eastern Finland (Finnish: Itä-Suomen lääni, Swedish: Östra Finlands län) was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Oulu, Western Finland and Southern Finland. It also bordered Russia to the east.

Ulvila (Finnish: [ˈulʋilɑ]; Swedish: Ulvsby) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is one of the six medieval cities of Finland, as well as the third oldest city in the country. Ulvila was granted charter as a town by King Albert of Sweden on 7 February 1365. However, its town privileges were taken over by Pori in 1558. After 442 years, Ulvila regained town privileges in 2000.

Ulvila is located in the region of Satakunta and the former province of Western Finland. The town is situated just 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) southeast of the city of Pori along Highway 2. The municipality has a population of 12,345 (30 June 2025) and covers an area of 422.51 square kilometres (163.13 sq mi), of which 21.82 km (8.42 sq mi) is water. The population density is 30.8 inhabitants per square kilometre (80/sq mi).

Oulu Province (Finnish: Oulun lääni, Swedish: Uleåborgs län, Russian: Губерния О́улу) was a province of Finland from 1775 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Lapland, Western Finland and Eastern Finland and also the Gulf of Bothnia and Russia.

Keuruu (Finnish: [ˈkeu̯ruː]; Swedish: Keuru) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. The municipality has a population of 9,088 (30 June 2025) and covers an area of 1,430.57 square kilometres (552.35 sq mi) of which 172.4 km (66.6 sq mi) is water. The population density is 7.22 inhabitants per square kilometre (18.7/sq mi). The town center and Haapamäki village are both the most populated places in Keuruu.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality of Pihlajavesi was consolidated with Keuruu in 1969.
