The Ibero-American University (Spanish: Universidad Iberoamericana), commonly known as La Ibero and abbreviated as UIA, is a private Catholic Mexican higher education institution sponsored by the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). In 2009, UIA received the SEP-ANUIES Prize as the best private university in Mexico. The university's flagship campus is located in the Santa Fe district of Mexico City.

Its main library, Biblioteca Francisco Xavier Clavigero, holds more than 400,000 books and journals and as of 2007 is one of the largest university libraries in the country.

The Francisco Xavier Clavigero Library (Spanish: Biblioteca Francisco Xavier Clavigero) is the library of the Universidad Iberoamericana. It is the largest library owned by a private university in Mexico. It was created in 1943 and is located in the Mexico City neighborhood of Santa Fé.

This library holds almost a quarter of a million volumes (249,710 as of 2004) and is named after Francisco Xavier Clavigero (1731–1787), a Jesuit who was forced into exile in Bologna, Italy when the Bourbon Reforms of the Spanish crown expelled the Jesuits from its realms in 1767. Clavigero was a creole patriot and wrote an important history of Mexico, honoring its prehispanic, indigenous part.

Universidad Iberoamericana in the context of National Strike Council

The National Strike Council, the Consejo Nacional de Huelga (CNH) was created on August 2, 1968, composed of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), El Colegio de Mexico, the School of Agriculture of Chapingo, the Universidad Iberoamericana, the Universidad La Salle and other universities in Mexico.

It was created in response to developments against the student community, such as the intervention of the army in a confrontation between students of the Vocational School #2 (IPN) and the preparatory high school "Isaac Ochenterena" incorporated to the UNAM, in which several students from both schools were detained and the destruction caused by a bazooka used by the army at the entrance of the high school at the Colegio de San Ildefonso.
