⭐ Core Definition: Temirgoy

The Chemirgoy or Temirgoy are one of the twelve major Circassian tribes, representing one of the twelve stars on the green-and-gold Circassian flag. They lived between the lower flows of the Belaya and Laba Rivers and their lands extended north to the Kuban. After the end of the Caucasian War, most Temirgoys resettled in other Circassian villages (e.g. Bzhedugii, Kabarda, Urupskiy), as well as in Turkey and in other parts of the Middle East. In Turkey, the majority of the population of the village Hadzhimukohabl (now Dondukovskaya) are Temirgoy.

The Temirgoy live mainly in Adygea. The Temirgoy dialect of Adyghe (КIэмыргъуэйбзэ), as well as the Bzhedug dialect, are the main languages of the Circassians in the Republic of Adygea.

👉 Temirgoy in the context of Adyghe language

Adyghe (/ˈædɪɡ/ or /ˌɑːdɪˈɡ/; also known as West Circassian) is a Northwest Caucasian language spoken by the western subgroups of Circassians. It is spoken mainly in Russia, as well as in Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Israel, where Circassians settled after the Circassian genocide (c. 1864–1870) by the Russian Empire. It is closely related to the Kabardian (East Circassian) language, though some reject the distinction between the two languages in favor of both being dialects of a unitary Circassian language.

The literary standard of Adyghe is based on its Temirgoy dialect. Adyghe and Russian are the two official languages of the Republic of Adygea in the Russian Federation.

Temirgoy in the context of Prince Inal

Inal Nef (Adyghe: Инал Нэшъу; Kabardian: Инал Нэф, lit.'Inal the Blind') was the legendary Supreme Prince (King) of Circassia who unified all Circassians into one state. He led campaigns into several areas and expanded borders on all directions. Inal's descendants are narrated to have been the founders of princely dynasties within Circassian tribes, mainly Kabardia, Besleney, Temirgoy, Zhaney, and Hatuqway.

Inal's existence is recorded only in Circassian oral tradition, and he is not mentioned in any contemporary oral sources.
