Irakli Kobakhidze (Georgian: แƒ˜แƒ แƒแƒ™แƒšแƒ˜ แƒ™แƒแƒ‘แƒแƒฎแƒ˜แƒซแƒ”; born 25 September 1978) is a Georgian politician who holds the position of the 16th prime minister of Georgia since 2024 and chairman of Georgian Dream since 2025, having previously served in this role from 2021 to 2024.

A member of Georgian Dream, Kobakhidze previously served as a member of the Georgian Parliament from 2016 to 2024, the sixth chairman of the Parliament of Georgia from 2016 to 2019, and the vice-president of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2020 to 2022. Prior to joining politics, he was a professor at the Tbilisi State University and also worked for Western-funded non-governmental organizations.

Akaki Shanidze (Georgian: แƒแƒ™แƒแƒ™แƒ˜ แƒจแƒแƒœแƒ˜แƒซแƒ”; 26 February 1887 โ€“ 29 March 1987) was a Georgian linguist and philologist, born in Nogha, Samtredia. He was one of the founders of the Tbilisi State University (1918) and Academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (1941); Doctor of Philological Sciences (1920), Professor (1920). He became a doctor in Tbilisi State University. His most important Georgian works were in linguistic sciences.

Shanidze graduated from the St. Petersburg University in 1909. His numerous works heavily influenced modern scholarly research of the Georgian and its sister Kartvelian languages both in Georgia and abroad with his tutorship of the Norwegian Kartvelologist Hans Vogt.

Zviad Konstantines dze Gamsakhurdia (Georgian: แƒ–แƒ•แƒ˜แƒแƒ“ แƒ™แƒแƒœแƒกแƒขแƒแƒœแƒขแƒ˜แƒœแƒ”แƒก แƒซแƒ” แƒ’แƒแƒ›แƒกแƒแƒฎแƒฃแƒ แƒ“แƒ˜แƒ; Russian: ะ—ะฒะธะฐฬะด ะšะพะฝัั‚ะฐะฝั‚ะธฬะฝะพะฒะธั‡ ะ“ะฐะผัะฐั…ัƒฬั€ะดะธั, romanized:ย Zviad Konstantinovich Gamsakhurdiya; 31 March 1939 โ€“ 31 December 1993) was a Georgian politician, human rights activist, dissident, professor of English language studies and American literature at Tbilisi State University, and writer who became the first democratically elected President of Georgia in May 1991.

A prominent exponent of Georgian nationalism and pan-Caucasianism, Zviad Gamsakhurdia was involved in Soviet dissident movement from his youth. His activities attracted attention of authorities in the Soviet Union and Gamsakhurdia was arrested and imprisoned numerous times. Gamsakhurdia co-founded the Georgian Helsinki Group, which sought to bring attention to human rights violations in the Soviet Union.
