It is the administrative center of Svitlovodsk urban hromada, one of the many hromadas of Ukraine. The city has a population of around 43,130 (2022 estimate).

Between 1962 and 1969, the city was briefly renamed Kremhes, reflecting its status as a satellite city of Kremenchuk.

Kirovohrad Oblast (Ukrainian: Кіровоградська область, romanizedKirovohradska oblast), also known as Kirovohradshchyna (Ukrainian: Кіровоградщина), is an oblast (province) in central Ukraine. The administrative center of the oblast is the city of Kropyvnytskyi. The oblast's population is 903,712 (2022 estimate). It is Ukraine's second least populated oblast, ahead of Chernivtsi.

In 2019, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine approved the change of the oblast's name to Kropyvnytskyi Oblast (Ukrainian: Кропивницька область, romanizedKropyvnytska oblast, unofficially Kropyvnychchyna (Ukrainian: Кропивниччина)). The change is not yet implemented. The largest cities of the region are Kropyvnytskyi, Oleksandriia, Znamianka and Svitlovodsk.

Kremenchuk (/ˌkrɛmənˈk, ˌkrɪmɪnˈ-/; Ukrainian: Кременчук, IPA: [kremenˈtʃuk] ; also Kremenchug, Russian: Кременчуг) is an industrial city in central Ukraine which stands on the banks of the Dnipro River. The city serves as the administrative center of Kremenchuk Raion and Kremenchuk urban hromada within Poltava Oblast. Its population is approximately 215,271 (2022 estimate), ranking 31st in Ukraine. In 2001, the Ukrainian government included the city in the list of historical settlements.

Although not as large as some oblast centers, Kremenchuk has a large industrial center in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. A KrAZ truck plant, the Kremenchuk Oil Refinery of Ukrtatnafta, the Kriukiv Railway Car Building Works, and Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant, in nearby Svitlovodsk, are located in or near Kremenchuk. Highway M22 crosses the Dnieper over the dam of the power plant.

Znamianka (Ukrainian: Знам'янка, IPA: [ˈznɑmjɐnkɐ] ) is a city in central Ukraine, Kropyvnytskyi Raion, Kirovohrad Oblast. It hosts the administration of Znamianka urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: 21,221 (2022 estimate).

It is located about halfway between the regional center Kropyvnytskyi (west), and cities of Oleksandriia (east) and Svitlovodsk (north). A popular reservoir in the city is a Balka Orlova river and it's numerous ponds.

Svitlovodsk in the context of Kremenchuk Reservoir

The Kremenchuk Reservoir (Ukrainian: Кременчуцьке водосховище, romanizedKremenchutske vodoskhovyshche) is a reservoir on the Dnieper river in the Ukrainian oblasts of Poltava, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad, one of five of Dnieper reservoir cascade. Named after the city of Kremenchuk, the reservoir is primarily used for irrigation, flood control, fishing, and transport from the ports of Cherkasy and Svitlovodsk. It is the largest reservoir on the Dnieper river, with a length of 149 km, a width of 28 km, an area of 2,250 km, an average depth of six meters, and a volume of 13.5 km.

The reservoir's water level is maintained by the dam of the Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Plant, built between 1954 and 1959. Its filling resulted in the submersion of 23 populated places in the Novoheorhiivsk Raion, including Kryliv and Novoheorhiivsk. The Sula River flows into the reservoir, forming a delta with numerous islands.
