Northern Hungary (Hungarian: Észak-MagyarorszĂĄg, Hungarian pronunciation: ['eːsɒk 'mɒɟɒrorsaːg]) is a region in Hungary. As a statistical region it includes the counties Borsod-AbaĂșj-ZemplĂ©n, Heves and NĂłgrĂĄd, but in colloquial speech it usually also refers to Szabolcs-SzatmĂĄr-Bereg county. The region is in the north-eastern part of Hungary. It borders Slovakia to the north, the Northern Great Plain region of Hungary to the south-east, and the central region of Hungary to the south-west. The region's centre, largest, and capital city is Miskolc.

Debrecen (/ˈdɛbrətsɛn/ DEB-rət-sen; Hungarian: [ˈdɛbrɛtÍĄsɛn] ; German: Debrezin [ˈdɛbʁɛtÍĄsiːn] ; Slovak: DebrecĂ­n [ˈɟɛbrɛtÍĄsiːn] Romanian: Debrețin) is Hungary's second-largest city, after Budapest, the regional centre of the Northern Great Plain region and the seat of HajdĂș-Bihar County. A city with county rights, it was the largest Hungarian city in the 18th century and it is one of the Hungarian people's most important cultural centres. Debrecen was also the capital city of Hungary during the revolution in 1848–1849. During the revolution, the dethronement of the Habsburg dynasty was declared in the Reformed Great Church. The city also served as the capital of Hungary by the end of World War II in 1944–1945. It is home to the University of Debrecen.

Tiszabecs is a village in Szabolcs-SzatmĂĄr-Bereg County, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.

It is located on the eastern edge of the county, next to the Ukrainian border, on the edge of the Satu Mare plain, on the left bank of the river Tisza. It enters the territory of Hungary on the administrative border of the Tisza (at 744.5 km).

The Southern Great Plain includes the counties of BĂĄcs-Kiskun, BĂ©kĂ©s, and CsongrĂĄd-CsanĂĄd. The region is in the southern part of Hungary. It borders Central Hungary and the Northern Great Plain regions to the north, Romania to the east, Serbia to the south, and the Southern Transdanubia and Central Transdanubia regions to the west. The regional centre, and capital city is Szeged, the third largest city of Hungary.
