The Senate (Khmer: αž–αŸ’αžšαžΉαž‘αŸ’αž’αžŸαž—αžΆ, Pruetsaphea [prΙ¨tsapΚ°iΙ™]; lit. 'Senatorial Assembly'), formally the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia (αž–αŸ’αžšαžΉαž‘αŸ’αž’αžŸαž—αžΆαž“αŸƒαž–αŸ’αžšαŸ‡αžšαžΆαž‡αžΆαžŽαžΆαž…αž€αŸ’αžšαž€αž˜αŸ’αž–αž»αž‡αžΆ), is the upper house of the Parliament of Cambodia. It is a legislative body composed of 62 members. 58 of the Senate seats are elected every six years by the commune councillors from 24 provinces of Cambodia and members of the National Assembly. In addition, the King nominates two senators, and the National Assembly nominates two, ending with a total of 62 senators. The Senate performs its duties as determined in the constitution and law in force. The Senate is chaired and presided by the president, currently Hun Sen of the Cambodian People's Party and assisted by two Vice Presidents.

The first Senate session was held on March 25, 1999, and the first election was held on January 22, 2006. The fifth and current Senate was inaugurated by King Norodom Sihamoni on April 3, 2024.

Norodom Ranariddh (Khmer: αž“αžšαŸ„αžαŸ’αžαž˜ αžšαžŽαž«αž‘αŸ’αž’αž·; 2 January 1944 – 28 November 2021, UNGEGN: NΓ΄roΕ­ttΓ’m RΓ΄αΉ‡Γ’rΕ“Μ†ddhΔ­, ALA-LC: Narottam RaαΉ‡aαΉ›ddhi [nΙ”roːɗɑm rΔ•Ι™Κ”naΚ”rΙ¨t]) was a Cambodian politician and law academic. He was the second son of King Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia and a half-brother of King Norodom Sihamoni. Ranariddh was the president of FUNCINPEC, a Cambodian royalist party. He was also the first Prime Minister of Cambodia following the restoration of the monarchy, serving between 1993 and 1997, and subsequently as the President of the National Assembly between 1998 and 2006.

Ranariddh was a graduate of the University of Provence and started his career as a law researcher and lecturer in France. In 1983, he joined FUNCINPEC and in 1986 became the chief of staff and commander-in-chief of ArmΓ©e nationale sihanoukiste. Ranariddh became Secretary-General of FUNCINPEC in 1989, and its president in 1992. When FUNCINPEC won the 1993 Cambodian general election, it formed a coalition government with the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), which was jointly headed by two concurrently serving prime ministers. Ranariddh became the First Prime Minister of Cambodia while Hun Sen, who was from the CPP, became the Second Prime Minister. As the First Prime Minister, Ranariddh promoted business interests in Cambodia to leaders from regional countries and established the Cambodian Development Council (CDC).

Norodom Monineath Sihanouk (Khmer: αž“αžšαŸ„αžαŸ’αžŠαž˜ αž˜αž»αž“αž·αž“αžΆαž αžŸαžΈαž αž“αž», pronounced [nΙ”roːtΙ—Ι‘m mΙ”niːniΙ™t sΙ™jhanuΚ”]; born Paule Monique Izzi; 18 June 1936) is the Queen Mother of Cambodia. She was Queen of Cambodia from 1993 to 2004, as the wife of King Sihanouk. She is the widow of King Norodom Sihanouk, whom she married in 1955 as the "secondary consort" (Sihanouk married his official wife, Norodom Thavet Norleak, as the "first lady" also in 1955, before being married to Monineath). After Sihanouk and Norleak divorced in 1968, Monineath became the official spouse of the King.

Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk and King Norodom Sihanouk had two children: Norodom Sihamoni and Norodom Narindrapong; both were born before their parents married. Her official, full title is "Samdech Preah Mahaksatrey Norodom Monineath Sihanouk" (Khmer: αžŸαž˜αŸ’αžαŸαž…αž–αŸ’αžšαŸ‡αž˜αž αžΆαž€αŸ’αžŸαžαŸ’αžšαžΈ αž“αžšαŸ„αžαŸ’αžαž˜ αž˜αž»αž“αž·αž“αžΆαž αžŸαžΈαž αž“αž»). The Queen is also called "Preah Voreakreach Meada Jeat Khmer" (Khmer: αž–αŸ’αžšαŸ‡αžœαžšαžšαžΆαž‡αž˜αžΆαžαžΆαž‡αžΆαžαž·αžαŸ’αž˜αŸ‚αžš, lit. "mother of the Khmer nation"). Her birthday on 18 June is an official public holiday in Cambodia.
