The Nicosia District, or simply Nicosia (also Lefkosia and Lefkoşa), is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is the island country's capital city, Nicosia. The de facto TRNC-controlled northern part of the district is the Lefkoşa District of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

TRNC-controlled areas of the Larnaca District of the Republic of Cyprus are administered as part of Nicosia District, while western parts of the Nicosia District under de facto TRNC control are administered as part of the new Güzelyurt and Lefke Districts.

Deneia (Greek: Δένεια [locally [ˈðeɲˑa]]; Turkish: Denya) is a village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, west of Mammari. It is one of only four villages located within the United Nations Buffer Zone, the other three being Pyla, Athienou and Troulloi.

Nicosia District in the context of Idalion

Idalion or Idalium (Greek: Ιδάλιον, Idalion, Phoenician: 𐤀𐤃𐤉𐤋, ʾDYL, Akkadian: e-di-ʾi-il, Edīl) was an ancient city in Cyprus, in modern Dali, Nicosia District. The city was founded on the copper trade in the 3rd millennium BC. Its name does not appear on the Sargon Stele of 707 BC, but does appear on the later Prism of Esarhaddon [nl] (copies of the text dated to 673–672 BC) and in similar spellings in Ashurbanipal's annal (648/647 BC).

Recent excavations have uncovered major buildings on the site which are open to visitors. A new museum is at the entrance of the site.

Nicosia District in the context of Larnaca District

The Larnaca District, or simply Larnaca (also Larnaka), is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its capital is Larnaca. It is bordered on the east by Famagusta District, on the north by Nicosia District and on the west by Limassol District.

A small part of the district was occupied by the Turkish army in 1974, and most of the occupied part is now de facto administered as part of Northern Cyprus's Lefkoşa District, with the remaining area near Pergamos being de facto administered by the Gazimağusa District.

Nicosia District in the context of Alikos

The Alikos or Alykos (Greek: Αλυκός or Greek: Άλυκος, Turkish: Alikos) is a river in Nicosia District, Cyprus, a tributary of the Yialias. The river originates in the Machairas Forest in the Troodos Mountains close to Kapedes and flows northeast across the Mesaoria plain, to Ayios Sozomenos, south east of Nicosia, where is joins the Yialias.

The Alikos is only an intermittently flowing river. Near its source the average rainfall is around 52.5 cm (20.7 in) per annum.

Nicosia District in the context of Pedoulas

Pedoulas (Greek: Πεδουλάς) is a village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, located at an altitude of 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) in the Troodos Mountains, 4 km south of Moutoullas. It lies in the Marathasa Valley. The name is derived from the words pediada (valley) and laos (people). It is a popular summer resort.
