The Rotterdam–The Hague metropolitan area (Dutch: Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag) is a metropolitan area encompassing the cities of Rotterdam and The Hague as well as 21 other municipalities. It was founded in 2014. The area has a population of approximately 2.7 million across 1,130 km (440 sq mi). It is the largest European port, with many international organizations residing within its borders.

The area lies in the zuidvleugel (English: "South Wing") of the larger conurbation called Randstad. Air traffic is supported by Rotterdam-The Hague Airport offering services to a number of European cities; however, the majority of air travelers use Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is about 45 kilometers from The Hague. Light rail public transport in the area is offered by RandstadRail, Rotterdam Metro, The Hague tram, and Rotterdam tram, heavy rail public transport is provided by the Dutch railways.

Amersfoort Schothorst is a railway station on the Utrecht–Kampen railway between Amersfoort and Zwolle. It is located in north Amersfoort, Netherlands. The station is operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS).

DB Cargo (German pronunciation: [deːbeː ˈkaʁɡo]; previously known as Railion and DB Schenker Rail) is an international transport and logistics company. It is responsible for all of the rail freight transport activities of the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (the DB Group) both inside Germany and on a global level. DB Cargo has a registered office in Mainz and a further administrative office in Frankfurt am Main.

The company was founded as DB Cargo AG on 1 January 1999 under the second stage of liberalisation reform of the German railway system (Bahnreform) underway around this time. Initial operations were primarily focused on the rail freight market within Germany; however, during early 2000, the company was reorganised under the Railion holding company as part of a merger between DB Cargo and the Dutch state-owned rail company Nederlanse Spoorwegen's rail freight operations. This new structure was designed for the cooperation, and incorporation, of future partnerships with other rail freight companies; between 2004 and 2009, Railion expanded its operations into Italy, Switzerland, and Poland, typically via acquisitions. Following the acquisition of Schenker AG in the early 2000s, the company was restructured again and adopted the DB Schenker Rail branding. During 2016, to indicate its core focus on rail freight transportation, the company was once more rebranded as DB Cargo AG; this naming scheme has been progressively replicated across the majority of its international subsidiaries as well.

Abellio (Dutch pronunciation: [aːˈbɛlijoː]) is a Dutch public transport company that operates bus and rail services in Germany, and formerly also in Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It is wholly owned by the Dutch national railway company, Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS).

Created in 2004 by EVAG, the city council-owned public transit company of Essen, the company initially operated as NedRailways. It promptly expanded into both railway and bus operations in the region. British investment company Star Capital Partners purchased a 75% share in Abellio from the City of Essen in December 2005. In December 2008, both parties sold their stakes in the venture to the Dutch national railway company, Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS). It adopted the current Abellio branding in January 2010.

The Weesp–Lelystad railway, also known as Flevolijn, is a railway in the Netherlands operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen and owned by ProRail. The line runs from Weesp, North Holland to Lelystad, capital of the neighbouring province of Flevoland. It currently has seven stations, these are (southwest to northeast): Almere Poort, Almere Muziekwijk, Almere Centrum, Almere Parkwijk, Almere Buiten, Almere Oostvaarders and Lelystad Centrum. Almere Strand was closed in 2012 and Lelystad Zuid is due to open before 2025.

Almere Strand railway station (English: Almere Beach) was a railway station in Almere, Netherlands. It was located on the Weesp–Lelystad railway (Flevolijn) between Weesp, North Holland and Almere Muziekwijk, Flevoland. Almere Strand station was served only during the Libelle Zomerweek and during events at the nearby beach. Trains at this station were operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

The station, which had two platforms with no facilities, was first opened on 1 May 1996 before being closed on 1 July 1996. It remained closed until 1 June 1999, when it reopened. It was closed permanently in October 2012, shortly before Almere Poort railway station opened.

Amsterdam Centraal station (Dutch: Station Amsterdam Centraal, lit. 'Amsterdam Central Station', Dutch pronunciation: [staːˈɕɔn ˌɑmstərˈdɑm sɛnˈtraːl], abbreviation: Asd) is the largest railway station in Amsterdam, North Holland, the Netherlands. A major international railway hub, it is used by 192,000 passengers a day, making it the second busiest railway station in the country after Utrecht Centraal and the most visited Rijksmonument of the Netherlands.

National and international railway services at Amsterdam Centraal are provided by NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen), the principal rail operator in the Netherlands. Amsterdam Centraal is the northern terminus of Amsterdam Metro lines 51, 53, 54, and is a stop on Line 52 operated by municipal public transport operator GVB. It is also served by a number of GVB tram and ferry routes as well as local and regional bus routes operated by GVB, Connexxion and EBS.
