The National Statistical Institute or NSI (Bulgarian: Национален статистически институт or НСИ) is the Bulgarian state agency responsible for the collection and dissemination of statistical data on the population, economy and environment of the country. It reports directly to the Prime Minister of the country.The National Statistical Institute was established in 1880 as a Department of the Ministry of Finance. It carried out the first census of the population in 1881. In 1894, the Department becomes part of the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture. In 1910, the agency published its first annual statistical report, "Statistical Yearbook of the Kingdom of Bulgaria".

Albena (Bulgarian: Албена) is a major Black Sea resort in northeastern Bulgaria, Balchik Municipality, situated 12 km (7 mi) from Balchik and 30 km (19 mi) from Varna. Albena is served by Varna Airport. Since 2005 is considered as a settlement by the National Statistical Institute.
Albena is one of the purpose-built resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast and has a uniform and unique architectural style. Although it was built on an empty ground in the 1960s, now this is in fact a small resort town with its own downtown, streets, squares and even internal public transport — dedicated little "trains" circulate on schedule along their routes within the resort. The resort was opened in 1967 by the top Bulgarian communist officials of the People's Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Traykov, Todor Zhivkov and several others.

The largest city is Sofia, with about 1.4 million inhabitants, and the smallest is Melnik, with about 300. Towns are not necessarily larger than all villages. Indeed, many villages are more populous than many towns – compare for instance Lozen, a large village with more than 6,000 inhabitants, with Melnik.
