Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Chile) in the context of Plaza de la Constitución (Santiago de Chile)

The Chilean Antarctic Territory, or Chilean Antarctica (Spanish: Territorio Chileno Antártico, Antártica Chilena), is a part of West Antarctica and nearby islands claimed by Chile. It comprises the region south of 60°S latitude and between longitudes 53°W and 90°W, partially overlapping the Antarctic claims of Argentine Republic (Argentine Antarctica) and the United Kingdom (British Antarctic Territory). It constitutes the Antártica commune of Chile.

The territory covers the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula (called O'Higgins Land—Tierra de O'Higgins—in Chile), and the adjacent islands of Alexander Island, Charcot Island and Ellsworth Land, among others. Its boundaries are defined by Decree 1747, issued on 6 November 1940 and published on 21 June 1955 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Albert Leo "Alberto" van Klaveren Stork (born 27 October 1948) is a Dutch-born Chilean lawyer, political scientist, and diplomat who has been serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 10 March 2023. Previously, he served as the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of Chile between 2006 and 2009. Van Klaveren also represented Chile in the International Court of Justice in the case regarding the Chilean–Peruvian maritime dispute. Before assuming his post as a minister, he taught at the University of Chile.

The Edificio José Miguel Carrera is the headquarters of the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores of Chile, located in the Civic District of Santiago, facing the Plaza de la Constitución. It was formerly the historic Hotel Carrera, until 2004.
