Maria Chiara Carrozza (born 16 September 1965) is an Italian physicist, engineer and politician who served as Minister of Education, University and Research in the government of Prime Minister Enrico Letta between April 2013 and February 2014. She has been president of the National Research Council of Italy since April 2021.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Italian: Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, INGV) is a research institute for geophysics and volcanology in Italy.

INGV is funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. Its main responsibilities within the Italian civil protection system are the maintenance and monitoring of the national networks for seismic and volcanic phenomena, together with outreach and educational activities for the Italian population. The institute employs around 2000 people distributed between the headquarters in Rome and the other sections in Milan, Bologna, Pisa, Naples, Catania and Palermo.

This is a list of ministers of university and research since 1962. From 2001 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2019 the office had been incorporated with the office of Minister of Public Education into the office of Minister of Education, Universities and Research.

The current office holder is Anna Maria Bernini, a member of Forza Italia who has been serving in the cabinet of Giorgia Meloni since October 2022.
