Alliance is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,672 at the 2020 census. It was established in 1854 by the merger of three smaller communities and was a manufacturing and railroad hub in the 20th century. Alliance is associated with the state flower of Ohio, the scarlet carnation, and is known as the "Carnation City". The University of Mount Union, a private liberal arts college established in 1846, is located in the city. Partially extending into Mahoning County, Alliance is part of the Canton–Massillon metropolitan area.

The 2022 Ohio gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Ohio. Incumbent Republican Governor Mike DeWine won a second term in a landslide, defeating Democratic nominee Nan Whaley, the former mayor of Dayton, with 62.4% of the vote. DeWine's 25-point victory marked the continuation of a trend in which every incumbent Republican governor of Ohio since 1994 has won re-election by a double-digit margin.

This was the first time since 1994 in which Trumbull and Mahoning counties have gone to the Republican candidate with over 60% of the vote. Hamilton County also voted Republican in a statewide election for the first time since Ohio's 2016 United States Senate election, which incumbent Republican Rob Portman also won by over 20 points and nearly 60% of the vote.

Youngstown is a city in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, and the county seat (a small portion of the city is in Trumbull County). The population was 60,068 at the 2020 census, and was estimated at 59,123 in 2024, making it the eleventh-most populous city in Ohio. The Mahoning Valley metropolitan area had an estimated 426,086 residents in 2024. Youngstown is situated on the Mahoning River in Northeast Ohio, roughly midway between Cleveland (60 miles (97 km) northwest) and Pittsburgh (60 miles (97 km) southeast).

Youngstown is a midwestern city located on the Glaciated Allegheny Plateau. It was named for pioneer John Young, who settled the city in 1797 and established its first sawmill and gristmill along the Mahoning River. It was an early industrial city of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and became known as a center of steel production. With the movement of steelmaking jobs offshore as the industry contracted in the 1970s, the city became exemplary of the Rust Belt.
