The liberation of the apostle Peter is an event described in chapter 12 of the Acts of the Apostles, in which the apostle Peter is rescued from prison by an angel. Although described in a short textual passage, the tale has given rise to theological discussions and has been the subject of a number of artworks.

Liberation of Peter in the context of San Pietro in Vincoli
San Pietro in Vincoli ([sam ˈpjɛːtro iɱ ˈviŋkoli]; Saint Peter in Chains) is a Roman Catholic titular church and minor basilica in Rome, Italy. The church is on the Oppian Hill near Cavour metro station, a short distance from the Colosseum. The name alludes to the Biblical story of the Liberation of Peter.
This church is best known for housing Michelangelo's statue of Moses, part of the tomb of Pope Julius II. |Following the death of Pio Laghi, Donald Wuerl became the Cardinal-Priest in 2010.
