Surcouf (F711) is a La Fayette-class frigate of the French Navy. Construction began at Lorient Naval Dockyard on 6 July 1992, launched 3 July 1993, and the ship was commissioned May 1996. Since entering service, Surcouf has taken part in numerous missions, notably in Operation Antilope (Gabon and Congo), Operation Trident (Kosovo) and Mission Khor Anga in the Djibouti zone.

La Fayette-class frigate in the context of French frigate Jean Bart

Jean Bart was a Cassard-class anti-air frigate of the French Marine Nationale. She was the eighth vessel of the French Navy named after the privateer Jean Bart. She was commissioned on 3 March 1991.

Jean Bart was fitted with a number of types of prototype equipment which were later incorporated in the La Fayette-class frigates. The vessel was withdrawn from service in August 2021.
