Khatlon Region in the context of "Kunduz province"

Sangtuda (Russian: Сангтуда; Tajik: Сангтӯда, Persian: سنگ‌توده) is a village and jamoat in Tajikistan. It is located in Danghara District in Khatlon Region. The jamoat has a total population of 12,686 (2015).

Located on the East bank of the Wakhsh River, a major tributary of the Amu Darya (or Oxus River), the place was known as Wakhsh in the Medieval period.

Hulbuk (Tajik: Ҳулбук), formerly Vose' (Восеъ), Poytug (Пойтуғ) is the capital of the Vose' District of the Khatlon Region, Tajikistan. It had an estimated population of 24,500 as of 2020. It is located in the southern portion of Tajikistan 26 kilometres (16 mi) southwest of Kulob and 174 km (108 mi) south of Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan.

The Palace of the Governor of Khulbuk (37°46′39″N 69°33′23″E / 37.77750°N 69.55639°E / 37.77750; 69.55639) is located in the center of village of Kurban-Shaid in the city of Vose in the Khatlon Region of Tajikistan. The palace was situated in the south-west part of the ancient town of Khisht-Tepa. Khulbuk was a center of the Huttal Region in 9th-12th centuries CE. The site has been proposed to be put on the World Heritage list of sites that have "outstanding universal value" to the world.

Danghara District or Nohiya-i Danghara (Russian: Дангаринский район; Tajik: Ноҳияи Данғара) is a district in Khatlon Region, Tajikistan. Its capital is the town Danghara. The population of the district is 161,000 (January 2020 estimate).

Farkhor (Tajik: Фархор), also called Parkhar (Russian: Пархар), is a city in southwestern Tajikistan, located on the border with Afghanistan. It is the capital of Farkhor District in Khatlon Region. The population of the town is 25,300 (January 2020 estimate). The Farkhor Air Base is about 4 km south-west of Farkhor. The record high temperature of 44.4 °C (111.9 °F) was recorded on July 8, 2021. The previously mentioned temperature was surpassed by a new record temperature of 45.1 °C (113.2 °F) was recorded on July, 2025.

The Qizilsu (Tajik: Қизилсу) or Kyzylsu (Russian: Кызылсу) is a river that rises on the southern slopes of the Vakhsh Range in the north-east of Tajikistan's Khatlon Region and runs south-west until joining the Panj on the border with Afghanistan. The river is 230 kilometres (140 mi) long and has a basin area of 8,630 square kilometres (3,330 sq mi). It merges with the Yakhsu (Akhshu) as a major left tributary south of the town of Kulob. It irrigates the cotton-growing Qizilsu Valley between Kulob and Panj in the south-east of Khatlon Province. It is not the Kyzyl-Suu River that rises in Kyrgyzstan and flows through Tajikistan as Surkhob, then Vakhsh, following a course north-west of Qizilsu.

Districts under Central Government Jurisdiction, also translated as Districts under Republican Subordination (Russian: Районы республиканского подчинения; Tajik: Ноҳияҳои тобеи ҷумҳурӣ, romanized: Nohiyahoyi tobe’i jumhuriy), is a region in Tajikistan, consisting of 9 districts and 4 district-level cities that are directly under central administration. Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, is surrounded by the Districts under Central Government Jurisdiction, but not part of it. The region shares a border with Dushanbe, Sughd, GBAO, Khatlon, Kyrgyzstan (Batken and Osh regions) and Uzbekistan (Surxondaryo). The region covers an area of 28,500 square kilometres, and has a total population of 2,165,900 (2020). The Districts' ethnic composition in 2010 was 85% Tajik and 11.7% Uzbek.
