Kharkiv Raion (Ukrainian: Харківський район) is a raion (district) of Kharkiv Oblast in eastern Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Kharkiv. Population: 1,729,049 (2022 estimate).

On 18 July 2020, as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast was reduced to seven, and the area of Kharkiv Raion was significantly expanded. One abolished raion, Derhachi Raion, as well as Liubotyn Municipality, part of Nova Vodolaha Raion, and the city of Kharkiv, which was previously incorporated as a city of oblast significance and did not belong to the raion, were merged into Kharkiv Raion. The January 2020 estimate of the population of the former Kharkiv Raion was 176,186 (2020 est.).

Kharkiv, also known as Kharkov, is the second-largest city in Ukraine. Located in the northeast of the country, it is the largest city of the historic region of Sloboda Ukraine. Kharkiv is the administrative center of Kharkiv Oblast and Kharkiv Raion. Prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, it had an estimated population of 1,421,125.

Founded in 1654 as a Cossack fortress, by late 19th century Kharkiv had developed within the Russian Empire as a major commercial and industrial center. From December 1919 to January 1934, Kharkiv was the capital of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. During this period migration from the distressed countryside and a relaxation of restrictions on Ukrainian cultural expression changed the city's ethnic complexion: Ukrainian replaced Russian as the largest recorded nationality. It was the sixth largest city in the Soviet Union during its existence.

Derhachi Raion (Ukrainian: Дергачівський район) was a raion (district) in Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center was the town of Derhachi. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Derhachi Raion was merged into Kharkiv Raion. The last estimate of the raion population was 92,829 (2020 est.)

The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Nova Vodolaha Raion was split between Kharkiv and Krasnohrad Raions. The last estimate of the raion population was 31,472 (2020 est.)
