The Karadag (Crimean Tatar: Qaradağ, Qara dağ, Ukrainian: Карадаг, Кара-Даг – translated as black mount) is a volcanic rock formation which rises to a height of 577 meters between the Crimean coastal town of Köktöbel and the Otuz river valley. It has been the site of a marine biological station since the early 20th century. Some 2874 ha of coastline and 809 ha of coastal waters have been protected as the Karadag Nature Reserve since 1979. The littoral is rich in picturesque cliffs such as the Devil's Gate. The best views of the Karadag are from Köktöbel and Kurortne. 15th Operational Brigade has received the honorary name in relation to the Mountain.

The 15th Operational Assignment Kara Dag Brigade "Hero of Ukraine Lieutenant Bohdan Zavada" is a brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. It is a part of the Ukrainian Offensive Guard and was established as the 9th Special Purpose Regiment in 1994 at the village of Shiroky in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. It has taken part in multiple engagements throughout the Russo-Ukrainian war and is currently deployed on the frontlines in Pokrovsk. It is currently headquartered in Zaporizhzhia City.

The Southern Coast (Crimean Tatar: Yalı Boyu; Ukrainian: Півде́нний бе́рег, romanized: Pivdennyi bereg; Russian: Ю́жный бе́рег, romanized: Yuzhny bereg), also referred to as the Crimean Riviera, is a geographic region located in southern Crimea, a region internationally recognised as part of Ukraine but currently controlled by Russia. Stretching from Cape Aya to Kara Dag Mountain, the Southern Coast has a total length of about 180 km (110 mi). The Southern Coast has historically been a prominent tourist location due to its relatively warm climate and purported benefits for respiratory health, and drew an estimated 500,000 tourists yearly as of 1984.
