He gained global recognition with his portrayal of Joey Tribbiani in the NBC sitcom Friends (1994–2004), and in its spin-off series Joey (2004–2006). For his work on Friends, LeBlanc received three nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Chandler Muriel Bing is a fictional character from the NBC sitcom Friends, portrayed by the late Matthew Perry. Chandler was born to Nora Tyler Bing, an erotic romance novelist, and Charles Bing, a gay female impersonator and star of a Las Vegas drag show called "Viva Las Gay-gas" as Helena Handbasket. It is revealed in the first season that he went to an all-boys high school.

Joey is an American sitcom created by Scott Silveri and Shana Goldberg-Meehan. It is a spin-off sequel to Friends, with Matt LeBlanc reprising his role as Joey Tribbiani. It premiered on NBC on September 9, 2004. Midway through the second season, the show was placed on hiatus but returned on March 7, 2006. Only one more episode aired on NBC before the show was pulled, and the final eight episodes were released by Warner Bros. in America in October/November 2025 on the Friends YouTube channel (they had previously only been released in various international markets). NBC canceled the series due to low ratings in May 2006.
