InterRegio in the context of "Fare zones of Zurich"

The Zurich S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn Zürich) system is a network of rail lines that has been incrementally expanded to cover the ZVV area, which comprises the entire canton of Zurich and portions of neighbouring cantons (Aargau, Glarus, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, St. Gallen, Thurgau and Zug), with a few lines extending into or crossing the territory of southern Germany. The network is one of many commuter rail operations in German speaking countries to be described as an S-Bahn. The lines connect with services of Aargau S-Bahn to the West, Basel S-Bahn (only in Waldshut) and Schaffhausen S-Bahn to the North, St. Gallen S-Bahn to the East, and Lucerne S-Bahn/Zug Stadtbahn to the South, as well as with InterCity, InterRegio and RegioExpress services at major junction stations.

The entire ZVV S-Bahn network went into operation in May 1990, although many of the lines were already in operation.

InterCity (commonly abbreviated IC on timetables and tickets) is the classification applied to certain long-distance passenger train services in Europe. Such trains (in contrast to InterRegio, regional, local, or commuter trains) generally call at major stations only.

An international variant of the InterCity trains are the EuroCity (EC) trains, which consist of high-standard coaches and are run by a variety of operators.

This is a sortable list of railway stations in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, with further information (see below for a map). In total, there are 29 railway stations, of which one is closed. Most stations are on 1,450 mm (4 ft 9+3⁄32 in) standard-gauge lines, while four of them are tram stops along the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre-gauge tram network, served by a light rail (S18) that continues on its own tracks outside of the city.

The stations lie in the fare zone 110 of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV). They are served by commuter trains of the Zurich S-Bahn and are also well-connected with the Zurich tram and trolleybus network as well as with municipal and regional buses. Long-distance trains (categories: TGV, RJX, ICE, EC, IC, IR, RE, EN, NJ) call at the Main Railway Station, Zürich Hauptbahnhof (Zürich HB), with some IC, IR and RE services also serving Zürich Altstetten and Zürich Oerlikon stations.

Brunnen railway station, on the Gotthard railway, is served by hourly InterRegio trains, and by lines S2 of the Stadtbahn Zug, which operates hourly between Zug, Arth-Goldau and Erstfeld, and S3 of the S-Bahn Luzern, which operates hourly to Lucerne.
