The Brussels Stock Exchange (French: Bourse de Bruxelles [buʁs bʁysɛl]; Dutch: Beurs van Brussel [ˈbøːrs fɑm ˈbrʏsəl]), abbreviated to BSE, was founded in Brussels, Belgium, by decree of Napoleon in 1801. In 2000, the BSE merged with the Amsterdam, Lisbon and Paris stock exchanges into Euronext, renaming the BSE Euronext Brussels. The benchmark stock market index on the BSE is the BEL 20.

The former Brussels Stock Exchange building, known as the Bourse Palace (French: Palais de la Bourse; Dutch: Beurspaleis) and usually shortened to la Bourse (in French) or de Beurs (in Dutch), is located on the Place de la Bourse/Beursplein along the Boulevard Anspach/Anspachlaan. The BSE is now headquartered in the Marquis building. It can be accessed from Brussels-Central railway station.

Brussels-Central railway station in the context of Victor Horta

Victor Pierre Horta (French: [viktɔʁ ɔʁta]; Victor, Baron Horta after 1932; 6 January 1861 – 8 September 1947) was a Belgian architect and designer, and one of the founders of the Art Nouveau movement. He was a fervent admirer of the French architectural theorist Eugène Viollet-le-Duc and his Hôtel Tassel in Brussels (1892–93), often considered the first Art Nouveau house, is based on the work of Viollet-le-Duc. The curving stylized vegetal forms that Horta used in turn influenced many others, including the French architect Hector Guimard, who used it in the first Art Nouveau apartment building he designed in Paris and in the entrances he designed for the Paris Metro. He is also considered a precursor of modern architecture for his open floor plans and his innovative use of iron, steel and glass.

Horta's later work moved away from Art Nouveau, and became more geometric and formal, with classical touches, such as columns. He made a highly original use of steel frames and skylights to bring light into the structures, open floor plans, and finely-designed decorative details. His later major works included the Maison du Peuple/Volkshuis (1895–1899), Brussels' Centre for Fine Arts (1923–1929) and Brussels-Central railway station (1913–1952). In 1932, King Albert I conferred on Horta the title of Baron for his services to the field of architecture.

Brussels-Central railway station in the context of Brussels Metro line 5

Line 5 is a rapid transit line on the Brussels Metro in Belgium operated by STIB/MIVB. It connects Herrmann-Debroux in the south-east of Brussels to Erasme/Erasmus in the south-west via the city centre. It has existed in its current form since 4 April 2009, when the section of former line 1A between Beekkant and Roi Baudouin/Koning Boudewijn was replaced by the section of former line 1B between Beekkant and Erasme. Starting from Herrmann-Debroux, the line crosses the municipalities of Auderghem, Etterbeek, City of Brussels, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Koekelberg and Anderlecht. It serves 28 metro stations and has a common section with line 1 between Gare de l'Ouest/Weststation and Merode, and with lines 2 and 6 between Gare de l'Ouest and Beekkant. At Arts-Loi/Kunst-Wet, the line also connects with lines 2 and 6. Railway connections are possible at Brussels-Central, Brussels-Schuman, Merode and Brussels-West.

The first section of this line was built in the late 1960s between Schuman and De Brouckère, but was served by trams. The first metro was brought into service on 20 September 1976, and the existing underground section was extended up to Tomberg on former line 1B, and up to Beaulieu on former line 1A. Line 1A was further expanded eastwards, to Demey in 1977 and to Herrmann-Debroux in 1985. The line was also expanded westwards, to Sainte-Catherine/Sint-Katelijne in 1977, to Beekkant in 1981, to Bockstael in 1982, to Heysel/Heizel in 1985 and to Roi Baudouin in 1998.

Line 1 is a rapid transit line on the Brussels Metro in Belgium operated by STIB/MIVB. Brussels-Central railway station in the context of Musical Instrument Museum (Brussels)

The Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) (French: Musée des instruments de musique; Dutch: Muziekinstrumentenmuseum) is a music museum in the Royal Quarter of Brussels, Belgium. It is part of the Royal Museums of Art and History (RMAH) and is internationally renowned for its collection of over 8,000 instruments.

Since 2000, the museum has been located in the former Old England department store, built in 1899 by Paul Saintenoy out of girded steel and glass in Art Nouveau style, as well as the adjoining 18th-century neoclassical building designed by Barnabé Guimard. Located at 2, rue Montagne de la Cour/Hofberg on the Mont des Arts/Kunstberg, the museum stands next to the Place Royale/Koningsplein and across the street from the Magritte Museum. It is served by Brussels-Central railway station and Parc/Park metro station on lines 1 and 5 of the Brussels Metro.
