The Borough of Basildon is a local government district with borough status in Essex, England. It is named after its largest town, Basildon, where the council is based. The borough also includes the towns of Billericay and Wickford and surrounding rural areas.
The borough borders the City of Chelmsford to the north, the Borough of Brentwood to the west, the Thurrock unitary authority area to the south, the Borough of Castle Point to the south-east, and Rochford District to the north-east.

It lies 27 miles (43 km) east of Central London, 11 miles (18 km) south of the city of Chelmsford and 10 miles (16 km) west of the city of Southend-on-Sea. Nearby towns include Billericay to the north-west, Wickford to the north-east and South Benfleet to the south-east. It was created as a new town after World War II in 1948, to accommodate the London population overspill from the conglomeration of four small villages: Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon (the most central of the four) and Vange.
Rochford is a local government district in Essex, England. It is named after one of its main settlements, Rochford, where the council is based. The largest town in the district is Rayleigh. Other places in the district include Hockley, Ashingdon, Great Wakering, Canewdon and Hullbridge.
The district borders Maldon District to the north, the City of Chelmsford to the north-west, the Borough of Basildon to the west, the Borough of Castle Point to the south-west, and the City of Southend-on-Sea to the south. To the east, it has a stretch of coast at Foulness Island.
Billericay (/bɪləˈrɪkiː/ BIL-ə-RIK-ee) is a historic market town and civil parish in the Borough of Basildon in Essex, England. It lies 23 miles (37 km) east of the City of London. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 28,562 and the built up area had a population of 34,075.
The town was founded in the 13th century by the Abbot of West Ham, in his Manor of Great Burstead. During the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, the Essex rebels were defeated in a battle with Richard II's forces in the Battle of Billericay. In 1620, four local people were on board the Mayflower as it sailed to Massachusetts, to establish the first English settlement in what would become the north of the United States. The town has long taken a pride in this connection, and many businesses and other organisations use the name Mayflower, with the Town Council and other local organisations using it as their emblem.
Wickford is a town and civil parish in the Basildon borough of Essex, England. It is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of London and 4 miles (6 km) north-east of the centre of Basildon. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 27,601 and the built up area as defined by the Office for National Statistics had a population of 27,535.
Wickford has a main high street which includes a wide range of shops. It also has a swimming pool, library, open-air market and a community centre within the vicinity of the town centre.
Vange is a southern suburb of Basildon in Essex, England. Vange was historically a separate village and parish. It was a small village until the first half of the 20th century, when it saw significant plotlands development. In 1949 the village was included in the designated area for the new town of Basildon, since when the area has seen further extensive development. It now forms part of the built up area of Basildon. It gives its name to one of the wards of the Borough of Basildon. At the 2021 census the ward had a population of 10,401.
