Bioko Norte (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbjoko ˈnoɾte]) is the second-most populated of the eight provinces of Equatorial Guinea, after the Litoral province. It contained 300,374 of the island's 335,048 inhabitants in 2015, sub-divided into 2 districts - Malabo (271,008) and Baney (27,366). Both the provincial capital, Rebola, and the national capital, Malabo are located here. Heavily forested with little urban development, the southern central part includes part of the Parque Nacional del Pico Basilé, a 330 square kilometres (130 sq mi) national park which was established in 2000.

Pico Basilé (formerly Pico de Santa Isabel or Clarence Peak), located on the island of Bioko, is the tallest mountain of Equatorial Guinea. With an elevation of 3,011 metres (9,879 feet), it is the summit of the largest and highest of three overlapping basaltic shield volcanoes which form the island. From the summit, Mount Cameroon can be seen to the north-east. Pico Basilé lies close to the city of Malabo. The very top is used as a broadcast transmitting station for RTVGE (Radio Television Guinea Ecuatorial) and microwave relay station for various communication networks.

The peak forms a part of Pico Basilé National Park, created in April 2000 The boundaries of Bioko Norte and Sur runs near the summit. All three shield volcanoes on Bioko Island are listed within the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program database of active volcanoes, though only Pico Basilé has erupted in historic times (most recently in 1923).

Malabo (/məˈlɑːb/ mə-LAH-boh, Spanish: [maˈlaβo] ; (formerly Santa Isabel [ˈsantajsaˈβel] ) is the capital of Equatorial Guinea in the province of Bioko Norte. It is located on the north coast of the island of Bioko (Bube: Etulá, and as Fernando Pó by the Europeans). In 2018, the city had a population of approximately 297,000 inhabitants.

Spanish is the official language of the city and of the country as well, but Pichinglis is used as a language of wider communication across Bioko island, including Malabo.

Bioko Norte in the context of Miguel Abia Biteo Boricó

Miguel Abia Biteo Boricó (11 January 1961 – 6 December 2012) was an Equatoguinean politician. He was the 5th Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea having served from 11 July 2004 to 14 August 2006. He was a member of the Bubi ethnic group.

Abia Biteo was born in 1961 in Santiago de Bane, which is part of the island of Bioko Norte, in then Spanish Guinea. He was a part of the Bubi ethnic group, becoming one of the first Bubi politicians as they have previously not had an active role in politics. Abia Biteo lived and studied in the Soviet Union, where he became a mining engineer. After returning to Equatorial Guinea he began to work for the government and became one of the most powerful officials in his country's oil industry, becoming one of the signatories of the first oil agreements between Equatorial Guinea and American companies and help shaped the country's oil policy. During the 1990s he held the position of Director at the Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons and was also Secretary of State in that ministry.
