In botanical nomenclature, a validly published name is a name that meets the requirements in the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) for valid publication. Valid publication of a name represents the minimum requirements for a botanical name to exist: terms that appear to be names but have not been validly published are referred to in the ICN as "designations".

A validly published name may not satisfy all the requirements to be legitimate. It is also not necessarily the correct name for a particular taxon and rank.

Asgard archaea (previously known as superphylum "Asgard" or phylum "Asgardarchaeota") are a kingdom belonging to the domain Archaea that contain eukaryotic signature proteins.

After including the kingdom category into ICNP, the only validly published names of this group are kingdom Promethearchaeati and phylum Promethearchaeota. All formerly proposed "phyla" would be de-ranked to classes in this framework. It appears that the eukaryotes, the domain that contains the animals, plants, fungi and protists, emerged within the Promethearchaeati, in a branch containing the "Heimdallarchaeia" [de; es]. This supports the two-domain system of classification over the three-domain system.

Methanobacteriati (formerly "Euryarchaeota", from Ancient Greek εὐρύς eurús, "broad, wide") is a kingdom of archaea. Methanobacteriati are highly diverse and include methanogens, which produce methane and are often found in intestines; halobacteria, which survive extreme concentrations of salt; and some extremely thermophilic aerobes and anaerobes, which generally live at temperatures between 41 and 122 °C. They are separated from the other archaeans based mainly on rRNA sequences and their unique DNA polymerase. The only validly published name for this group under the Prokaryotic Code is Methanobacteriati.
