The State University of Haiti (French: Université d'État d'Haïti (UEH), Haitian Creole: Inivèsite Leta Ayiti) is one of Haiti's most prestigious institutions of higher education. It is located in Port-au-Prince.

Its origins date to the 1820s, when colleges of medicine and law were established. In 1942, the various faculties merged into the University of Haiti. After a student strike in 1960, François Duvalier's government brought the university under firm government control and renamed it the State University of Haiti. In 1983, the university became an independent institution according to the Haitian constitution. The university's independent status was confirmed in the Haitian constitution of 1987.

The campus is part of the University of Haiti and was completed in January 12, 2012 (13 years ago) (January 12, 2012). Donated by the Government of the Dominican Republic, during the presidency of Leonel Fernandez Reyna, the campus was built at a cost of US$ 50 million.

The campus can hold up to 10,000 students, but fewer currently attend.

University of Haiti in the context of Limonade

Limonade (French pronunciation: [limɔnad] ; Haitian Creole: Limonad) is a commune in the Cap-Haïtien Arrondissement, in the Nord department of Haiti. It has 69,256 inhabitants. Christopher Columbus and his crew celebrated the first Christmas in the Americas at Limonade in 1492. Limonade is also the city in which François Capois, a renowned hero of the Haitian Revolution, died.

In 2012, a new university built by the Dominican Republic was finished near the town, Université Roi Henri Christophe, part of the University of Haiti.

University of Haiti in the context of François Duvalier

François Duvalier (14 April 1907 – 21 April 1971), also known as Papa Doc, was a Haitian politician and physician who served as president of Haiti from 1957 until his death in 1971.

Duvalier completed a degree in medicine from the University of Haiti in 1934 and spent a year at the University of Michigan studying public health. In 1943 he became active in a campaign to control the spread of contagious tropical diseases in Haiti. His patients affectionately called him "Papa Doc," a moniker that he used throughout his life. Duvalier served as Minister for Public Health and Labor under the administration of Dumarsais Estimé.
