The Super League 1 (Greek: Σούπερ Λιγκ 1), also officially known as A1 Ethniki Katigoria (Greek: Α1 Εθνική Κατηγορία, lit.'A1 National Division'), is the first-tier professional men's association football league in Greece. The league was formed on 16 July 2006 and replaced Alpha Ethniki Katigoria at the top of the Greek football league system. The members of the cooperative are the Football Anonymous Companies (P.A.E.) that have the right to participate in the Super League 1 championship. The president of Super League 1 is Vangelis Marinakis, who has been re-elected for the third time.

It consists of 14 teams and runs from August to May, with teams playing 26 games each followed by 6-game Championship play-offs to decide the champions.

Panathinaikos Football Club (Greek: ΠΑΕ Παναθηναϊκός Α.Ο. [panaθinaiˈkos] ), known as Panathinaikos, or by its full name, and the name of its parent sports club, Panathinaikos A.O. or PAO (Παναθηναϊκός Αθλητικός Όμιλος; Panathinaïkós Athlitikós Ómilos, lit.'Pan-Athenian Athletic Club'), is a Greek professional football club based in Athens, Greece.

Panathinaikos was founded in 1908 as "Podosfairikos Omilos Athinon" (Football Club of Athens) by Giorgos Kalafatis. They play in Super League Greece, being one of the most successful clubs in Greek football and one of the three clubs which have never been relegated from the top division. Among their major titles are 20 Greek Championships, 20 Greek Cups, achieving eight times the Double and 3 Greek Super Cups. They are also one of three clubs to win a Greek championship undefeated, going without a loss in a top-flight campaign in the 1963–64 season. Panathinaikos is the only Greek team that has reached the UEFA Champions League final in 1971 (which they lost to Ajax 2–0), and also the semi-finals twice, in 1985 and 1996. It is also the only Greek team that has played for the Intercontinental Cup (1971). Furthermore, they have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League on another two occasions (in 1992 and 2002), as well as the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup twice (1988 and 2003). They have also won the Balkans Cup in 1977. According to research and polls, Panathinaikos is the second most popular football team in Greece. Panathinaikos is also a member of the European Club Association.

The Greek Football Cup (Greek: Ελληνικό Κύπελλο Ποδοσφαίρου), officially known as Betsson Greek Cup (Greek: Κύπελλο Ελλάδας Betsson) for sponsorship reasons is a Greek association football competition, run by the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO).

The Greek Cup is the second-most important domestic men's football event in Greece, after the championship of Super League. Since its inception in 1931 it has been held 83 times, with a cup winner being crowned on 82 occasions, the final in 1962 being the only occasion when no champion was crowned.

Greek Football Super Cup (Greek: Ποδοσφαιρικό Σούπερ Καπ Ελλάδος), formerly known as Friendship and Solidarity Cup (Greek: Κύπελλο Φιλίας και Αλληλεγγύης) and now officially known as Betsson Super Cup (Greek: Betsson Σούπερ Καπ) for sponsorship reasons is a Greek association football one-match competition, which is contested annually between the champions of the previous Super League Greece season and the holders of the Greek Cup.

In January 2025, the Hellenic Football Federation decided in the restoration of the Super Cup after 18 years, effective from the beginning of 2025–26 football season in Greece. According to the decision, if the Super League Greece champions also won the Greek Football Cup, then the cup runners-up will provide the opposition for the match.

The 1963–64 Alpha Ethniki was the 28th season of the highest football league of Greece. The season began on 14 September 1963 and ended on 14 June 1964 with the relegation play-off match. Panathinaikos won their seventh Greek title.

The point system was: Win: 3 points - Draw: 2 points - Loss: 1 point.

Super League Greece in the context of Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren (Croatian pronunciation: [dějan lǒʋren]; born 5 July 1989) is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Super League Greece club PAOK.

Lovren began his career at Dinamo Zagreb before moving to Lyon in January 2010. He spent three and a half seasons with the Ligue 1 team and won the 2012 Coupe de France before he signed for Southampton in 2013. After one season with Southampton, he joined Liverpool for £20 million. He went on to make 185 appearances for the club, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020, before joining Russian champions Zenit Saint Petersburg in July 2020. Within four months, he became the captain of the team, replacing Artem Dzyuba.
