Sophia Square in the context of Shevchenkivskyi District, Kyiv

The Unification Act (Ukrainian: Акт Злуки, romanized: Akt Zluky, IPA: [ˈɑkt ˈzlukɪ]; or Велика Злука, Velyka Zluka, IPA: [ˈwɛlɪkɐ ˈzlukɐ]) was an agreement signed by the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic in Sophia Square in Kyiv on 22 January 1919. Since 1999, it is celebrated every year as the Day of Unity of Ukraine to commemorate the signing of the treaty; it is a state holiday in Ukraine, though not a public holiday.

Old Kyiv (Ukrainian: Старий Київ, romanized: Staryi Kyiv, IPA: [stɐˈrɪj ˈkɪjiu̯]) is a historical neighborhood of Kyiv. Other names include Upper City (Ukrainian: Верхнє місто, Ukrainian pronunciation: [ˈʋɛrxnʲe ˈmʲisto]; as opposed to Podil, the "Lower City"), Old Town, and others. It is located at the far eastern portion of the Shevchenkivskyi District. The approximate boundaries are St. Andrew's Church, Volodymyrska Hill, Independence Square, Golden Gate, Kyiv Velodrome [uk] (alias Kyiv Velotrack or Kyiv Bicycle Track), and Lvivska Square [uk].
