San Diego Bay in the context of Naval Air Station North Island

An anchorage is a location at sea where ships can lower anchors.

Anchorages are where anchors are lowered and utilised, whereas moorings usually are tethering to buoys or something similar. The locations usually have conditions for safe anchorage in protection from weather conditions, and other hazards.

Naval Air Station North Island, also known as NAS North Island (IATA: NZY, ICAO: KNZY, FAA LID: NZY), is a United States Navy installation located at the north end of the Coronado peninsula on San Diego Bay in San Diego, California. It is part of Naval Base Coronado (NBC), the largest aerospace-industrial complex in the United States Navy. NAS North Island is the home port of several aircraft carriers of the United States Navy.

The commanding officer of NAS North Island (NASNI) is also the Commanding Officer, Naval Base Coronado (NBC). As such, they command or administer NASNI and seven other naval facilities: Naval Amphibious Base Coronado (NABC); Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach; Silver Strand Training Complex; Remote Training Site, Warner Springs; Mountain Warfare Training Camp Michael Monsoor; Camp Morena; and Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island.

Point Loma (Spanish: Punta de la Loma, meaning "Hill Point"; Kumeyaay: Amat Kunyily, meaning "Black Earth") is a seaside community in San Diego, California, United States. Geographically it is a hilly peninsula that is bordered on the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, the east by San Diego Bay and Old Town, and the north by the San Diego River. Together with the Silver Strand/Coronado peninsula, the Point Loma peninsula defines San Diego Bay and separates it from the Pacific Ocean. The term "Point Loma" is used to describe both the neighborhood and the peninsula.

Point Loma has an estimated population of 47,981 (including Ocean Beach), according to the 2010 Census. The Peninsula Planning Area, which includes most of Point Loma, comprises approximately 4,400 acres (1,800 ha).
