It is the home ground of Samsunspor which plays in the Süper Lig. It replaced the club's former home ground, the old Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium (located in Canik), which was demolished in 2018. The first official match hosted by the stadium was the 2017 Turkish Super Cup final.

The 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake, located in faraway Kahramanmaraş Province caused minor damage to the stadium.

Samsunspor Kulübü (officially Samsunspor Futbol Kulübü Anonim Şirketi) is a Turkish professional association football club based in the city of Samsun, on the southern coast of the Black Sea. The club competes in the Süper Lig, the top tier of the Turkish football league system.

Established as the football branch of Samsunspor Sports Club, the team attained professional status on 30 June 1965. Initially hosting matches at the City Stadium, Samsunspor moved to the 19 Mayıs Stadium in 1975, and since the 2017–18 season have played their home games at the newly constructed Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium, which has a capacity of over 33,000.

Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium (Turkish: Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu), also known as Canik 19 Mayıs Stadium (Turkish: Canik 19 Mayıs Stadyumu) from 2017 until its demolition in 2018, was a multi-purpose stadium in the Canik district of Samsun, northern Turkey. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home ground of Samsunspor until the new Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium was opened in 2017. The stadium had a seating capacity for 16,480 spectators. It was demolished in 2018.

The stadium was named in remembrance of the landing of Mustafa Kemal Pasha (1881–1938) in Samsun on May 19, 1919, to start the national independence movement.
