Pittsburgh Steelers in the context of Denver Broncos

Pittsburgh Steelers in the context of Denver Broncos

⭐ Core Definition: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh. The Steelers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL, and the oldest franchise in the AFC.

In contrast with their status as a perennial losing franchise in the pre-merger NFL, where they were the oldest team never to have won a league championship, the Steelers of the post-merger (modern) era are among the most successful NFL franchises, especially during their dynasty in the 1970s. The team is tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl titles at six, and they have both played in (16 times) and hosted (11 times) more conference championship games than any other team in the NFL. The Steelers have also won eight AFC championships, tied with the Denver Broncos, but behind the Patriots' record 11 AFC championships. The team is tied with the Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, and San Francisco 49ers for the second-most Super Bowl appearances with eight.

Pittsburgh Steelers in the context of Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Frisco, Texas, and has played its home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, since its opening in 2009. The stadium took its current name prior to the 2013 season, following the team's decision to sell the stadium's naming rights to telecommunications company AT&T.

The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team's national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys' streak of 190 consecutive sold-out regular and post-season games (home and away) began in 2002. The franchise has made it to the Super Bowl eight times, tying it with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers for second-most Super Bowl appearances in history behind the New England Patriots' record 11 appearances. Their eight NFC championships are tied for most in the conference's history. The Cowboys are the only NFL team to record 20 straight winning seasons (from 1966 to 1985) during which they missed the playoffs only twice (1974 and 1984).

The Korea American Football Association (KAFA, Korean대한미식축구협회; Hanja大韓美式蹴球協會) has existed in South Korea for more than 70 years. The popularity of American football in Korea has been historically low, but with the visit of Hines Ward (a Korean born NFL football star with the Pittsburgh Steelers) in 2006, the sport received a modest level of increased appeal. Pittsburgh Steelers in the context of Super Bowl LVIII

Super Bowl LVIII was an American football game played to determine the champion of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2023 season between the National Football Conference (NFC) champion San Francisco 49ers and the American Football Conference (AFC) champion and defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. In a rematch of Super Bowl LIV four years earlier, the Chiefs once again defeated the 49ers 25–22 in overtime, making the Chiefs the first NFL team since the 2004 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. It was the second Super Bowl to be decided in overtime following 2017's LI, the first Super Bowl to use the new overtime rules implemented during the 2022 season, and the longest Super Bowl in NFL history, with a net playing time of 74 minutes and 57 seconds. The game was played on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. It was the first Super Bowl to be held in the state of Nevada. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career, completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

San Francisco entered the game with a posted 12-5 record and 1st seed, and the franchise's eighth Super Bowl appearance. The 49ers were seeking their sixth Super Bowl title, which would put the franchise in a three-way tie with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl Championships, while also attempting to reverse their past two consecutive losses in 2013's XLVII and 2020's LIV. Kansas City posted an 11-6 record and 3rd seed. It was the latter's sixth Super Bowl appearance, second consecutive appearance, and fourth overall appearance in the past five years. The Chiefs also entered the game in a bid to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots in 2004.
