The Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, abbreviated as Assas University (French: Université Paris-Panthéon-Assas) and commonly known as Assas or Paris 2, is a public research university in Paris, France.

It is considered the direct successor of the Faculty of Law of Paris, the second-oldest faculty of Law in the world, founded in the 12th century. Following the 1970 split of the University of Paris, often referred to as the 'Sorbonne', in the aftermath of the May 68 events, law professors faced decisions regarding the future of their faculty. Out of 108 law professors, 88 elected to sustain the legacy of the Faculty of Law of Paris by establishing a new university dedicated to the study of law. The university is housed within the same two buildings that previously accommodated the Faculty of Law of Paris.

The Latin Quarter of Paris (French: Quartier latin, IPA: [kaʁtje latɛ̃]) is a district in Paris on the left bank of the Seine, around the Sorbonne. Located in the city's 5th and the 6th arrondissements, it is known for its concentration of universities.

Although there has been some exodus, new schools have appeared, and the Latin Quarter continues to be the heart of the universities, and Grandes écoles that succeeded the University of Paris, including the Sorbonne University, Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Paris Cité University, PSL University, Panthéon-Assas University, and Sciences Po.

Paris-Panthéon-Assas University in the context of EFREI

The EFREI (École d'ingénieur généraliste en informatique et technologies du numérique) (Engineering School of Information and Digital Technologies) is the private engineering school of Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, located in Villejuif, Île-de-France, at the south of Paris.

Its courses, specializing in computer science and management, are taught with support from the state. Students who graduate earn an engineering degree accredited by the CTI (national commission for engineering degree accreditation) and the French government. The degree is equivalent to a master's degree in the European higher education area. Today, there are more than 6,500 EFREI graduates working in companies dealing with many different activities: education, human resources development, business/marketing, company management, legal advice and so on.
