Ministry of Industry (Syria) in the context of "Government of Syria"

The Syrian transitional government is the provisional government of Syria, formed on 29 March 2025 under President Ahmed al-Sharaa. It succeeded the Syrian caretaker government headed by Mohammed al-Bashir.

The government was announced by Ahmed al-Sharaa at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Damascus, where the new ministers were sworn in and delivered speeches outlining their agendas. Two new ministries were formed: the Ministry of Sports and Youth and Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management. The position of Prime Minister was abolished. The Ministry of Energy was formed from the mergers of the Ministry of Electricity, the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Water Resources while the Ministry of Economy and Industry was formed from the mergers of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Industry.

The Ministry of Economy and Industry (Arabic: وزارة الاقتصاد والصناعة) is a government ministry in Syria and part of the cabinet. It was established on 29 March 2025 as the result of a merger between the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection.

The Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade (Arabic: وزارة الاقتصاد والتجارة) of Syria was the ministry that was responsible of drawing the state's economic policy in general and trade policy in particular. It was established in 2003 and again in 2012 as a replacement to the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade. On 29 March 2025, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection were merged to become the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection was a department of the Council of Ministers of the Syrian Arab Republic. On 29 March 2025, the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Industry were merged to become the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

Syria has played an important and prominent role in the industrial progress for a long time because of the important geographical location and its mediation between the three continents, Europe, Asia and Africa, where the Syrian people were able to see the different nations, benefit and develop them. Therefore, Damascus is the most famous city for the endemicity of handicrafts that depend on individual skills. Industry has been a vital part of the Economy of Syria for many years. Major industries include; petroleum, textiles, food processing, beverages, tobacco, phosphate rock mining, cement, oil seeds crushing and car assembly.

Industry is the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and has been heavily disrupted by the Syrian civil war.
