There are about 1300 islands within Saudi Arabia. 89% of these islands are located in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, while the remaining 11% are in the Persian Gulf. The majority of these islands are located in Tabuk and Mecca provinces.
Only 4 of the 1,285 islands have an area of more than 50 km, 18 have an area between 10 and 50 km, 64 have an area between 1 and 10 km, while the remaining islands all have an area of less than 1 km. Only 6 out of the 1,285 islands—just 0.5%—are inhabited.
