People do drag for reasons ranging from self-expression to mainstream performance. Drag shows frequently include lip-syncing, live singing, and dancing. Drag queens vary by type, culture, and dedication, from professionals who star in films and spend a lot of their time in their drag personas, to people who do drag only occasionally. Lip sync in the context of Opus (audio format)

Opus is a free and open source lossy audio coding format developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation and standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force, designed for efficient low-latency encoding of both speech and general audio. Due to its lower latency relative to other standard codecs, Opus finds specific use cases in real-time interactive communication for low-end embedded processors. Opus replaces both Vorbis and Speex for new applications.

Opus combines the speech-oriented LPC-based SILK algorithm and the lower-latency MDCT-based CELT algorithm, switching between or combining them as needed. Bitrate, audio bandwidth, complexity, and algorithm choice can be adjusted for each individual frame. Opus has low algorithmic delay (26.5 ms by default) ideal for use as part of a real-time communication link, networked music performances, and live lip sync; by trading off quality or bitrate, the delay can be further reduced down to 5 ms. Its delay thus is significantly lower compared to competing codecs, which require well over 100 ms. Opus remains competitive with these formats in terms of quality per bitrate.

Drag kings have historically been mostly female performance artists who dress in masculine drag and personify male gender stereotypes as part of an individual or group routine. As documented in the 2003 Journal of Homosexuality, in more recent years the world of drag kings has broadened to include performers of all gender expressions. A typical drag show may incorporate dancing, acting, stand-up comedy and singing, either live or lip-synching to pre-recorded tracks. Drag kings often perform as exaggeratedly macho male characters, portray characters such as construction workers and rappers, or impersonate male celebrities like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Tim McGraw. Drag kings may also perform as personas that do not clearly align with the gender binary. Drag personas that combine both stereotypically masculine and feminine traits are common in modern drag king shows.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, several drag kings became British music hall stars and British pantomime has preserved the tradition of women performing in male roles. Starting in the mid-1990s, drag kings began to gain some of the fame and attention that drag queens have known.

Audio-to-video synchronization (AV synchronization, also known as lip sync, or by the lack of it: lip-sync error, lip flap) refers to the relative timing of audio (sound) and video (image) parts during creation, post-production (mixing), transmission, reception and play-back processing. AV synchronization is relevant in television, videoconferencing, or film.

In industry terminology, the lip-sync error is expressed as the amount of time the audio departs from perfect synchronization with the video where a positive time number indicates the audio leads the video and a negative number indicates the audio lags the video.
