A lifestyle center (American English), or lifestyle centre (Commonwealth English), is an open-air shopping center which aims to create a "pedestrian-friendly, town-like atmosphere with sidewalks, landscaping, ambient lighting, and park benches. Memphis developers Poag and McEwen are generally credited with developing the concept in the late 1980s. Lifestyle centers emerged as a major retailing trend in the late 1990s. Sometimes labeled boutique malls or ersatz downtown, they are often located in affluent suburban areas.

Retail parks form a key aspect of European retail geographies, alongside indoor shopping centres, standalone stores like hypermarkets and more traditional high streets. They are a similar retail model to the North American power centers, neighborhood shopping centers and strip malls.

Cushman & Wakefield define a retail park as any shopping centre with mostly retail warehouse units, of a size 5,000 square metres (54,000 sq ft) or larger.

Irvine Spectrum is a district in southeastern Irvine, Orange County, California, centered on the Irvine Spectrum Center shopping and lifestyle center. It is also an edge city, a concentration of business, shopping, and entertainment outside a traditional downtown, as defined by Joel Garreau in his 1991 book Edge City: Life on the New Frontier.

The Irvine Spectrum Center is anchored by Target, Nordstrom and a large Edwards Cinema multiplex. Office space is leased by the Irvine Company, which promotes Irvine Spectrum as Orange County's new tech hub and its new "Downtown" of office space, with 13 million square feet of office space in over 40 office "communities". The area also includes apartments, and is immediately adjacent to two other districts that by Garreau's abovementioned criteria would make them part of the edge city:

Jackson Township is a township in Ocean County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. A portion of the township is located within the Pinelands National Reserve. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township was the fifth most populous municipality in the Jersey Shore region, with a population of 58,544, an increase of 3,688 (+6.7%) from the 2010 census count of 54,856, which in turn reflected an increase of 12,040 (+28.1%) from the 42,816 counted in the 2000 census.

Roughly equidistant between New York City and Philadelphia, along with being close to the state capital of Trenton and the Jersey Shore on Interstate 195, Jackson is an outer-ring suburb of New York City within the New York metropolitan area. Jackson is also the site of the Six Flags Great Adventure Resort complex, which includes the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park, Hurricane Harbor New Jersey water park, and Wild Safari Adventure safari park. Jackson is also home to Adventure Crossing, a mixed-use entertainment complex that opened in 2023.
