Ciudad Obregón is a city in southern Sonora. It is the state's second largest city after Hermosillo and serves as the municipal seat of Cajeme. As of 2020, the city has a population of 436,484. Ciudad Obregón is 530 km (330 mi) south of the country's northern border.
Universidad La Salle also referred to by its acronym ULSA is a private Catholic university run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 15 campuses in Mexico. It offers high school, bachelor, master and Ph.D degrees. It has had an expansion in the country, creating its own university national system. Its main campus is located in Mexico City, and has a presence in Ciudad Obregón, Chihuahua, Gomez Palacio, Monterrey, Ciudad Victoria, Leon, Morelia, Pachuca, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, Puebla, Oaxaca, Cancún, Cuernavaca and Saltillo.
It is part of the educational community of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, founded by Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, patron saint of education. The congregation has about seventy-seven thousand lay partners and one million students around the world, with establishments of higher learning in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, France, Guatemala, Israel, Ivory Coast, Jerusalem, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Spain, the United States, and Venezuela.
Sonora (Spanish pronunciation: [soˈnoɾa] ), officially Estado Libre y Soberano de Sonora (English: Free and Sovereign State of Sonora), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the Federal Entities of Mexico. The state is divided into 72 municipalities; the capital (and largest) city of which is Hermosillo, located in the center of the state. Other large cities include Ciudad Obregón, Nogales (on the Mexico-United States border), San Luis Río Colorado, and Navojoa.
Sonora is located in northwest Mexico, bordering the states of Chihuahua to the east, Baja California to the west (of the north portion) and Sinaloa to the southeast. To the north, it shares a border with the United States, and on the southwest has a significant share of the coastline of the Gulf of California.
The Yaqui River (Río Yaqui in Spanish) (Hiak Vatwe in the Yaqui or Yoreme language) is a river in the state of Sonora in northwestern Mexico. It was formerly known as the Rio del Norte. Being the largest river system in the state of Sonora, the Yaqui river is used for irrigation, especially in the Valle del Yaqui.
The Rio Yaqui originates in the Sierra Madre Occidental at the junction of the Rio Bavispe and the Rio Aros at Lat. 29.529887 Long. −109.228377. It is approximately 320 km (200 mi) in length, and flows south and southwest into the Gulf of California near the city of Obregon.
