⭐ Core Definition: Banknotes of Denmark, 2009 series

The 2009 series of Danish Banknotes commenced in August 2009 and replaced the 1997 series. The theme of the notes is bridges of Denmark and ancient Danish artifacts found in the vicinity of the bridges. Danish artist Karin Birgitte Lund was selected to design the 2009 series after a competition. The competition specified the bridges theme as mandatory, and it was her idea to include the artifacts on the reverse side.

The sizes of the 2009 bank notes are identical to the 1997 bank notes, in order to avoid alterations to automated teller machines. The height is 72 millimetres and the lengths are from 125 mm to 165 mm, increasing by 10 mm for each new value.

The sculpture was discovered with no accompanying objects in 1902 in a peat bog on the Trundholm moor in Odsherred in the northwestern part of Zealand, (approximately 55°55′N 11°37′E / 55.917°N 11.617°E / 55.917; 11.617). It is now in the collection of the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen. It is featured on the 1000-krone banknote of the 2009 series.

Banknotes of Denmark, 2009 series in the context of Banknotes of Denmark, 1997 series

The 1997 series of Danish Banknotes are part of the physical form of Denmark's currency, the Danish Krone (kr.), issued by Danmarks Nationalbank. The 1997 series commenced in March 1997 and has since been replaced by the 2009 series.

The series was introduced gradually between 1997 and 1999. Its issue began on 10 March 1997 with the debut of the 200 kr. denomination, issued to bridge the gap between the 100 kr. and 500 kr. denominations. Between 2002 and 2005 the security features of the notes were improved to include holograms and fluorescent elements. In 2006, the national bank began designing new banknotes to replace this series. It officially began to be phased out with the issuance of the new 50 kr. banknote on 11 August 2009.
