Romandy (French: Romandie or Suisse romande; Arpitan: Romandia) is the French-speaking historical and cultural region of Switzerland. In 2020, about 2 million people, or 22.8% of the Swiss population, lived in Romandy. The majority of the romand population lives in the western part of the country, especially the Arc Lémanique region along Lake Geneva, connecting Geneva, Vaud, and the Lower Valais.

French is the sole official language in four Swiss cantons: Geneva, Vaud, Neuchâtel, and Jura. Additionally, French and German have co-official status in three cantons: Fribourg/Freiburg, Valais/Wallis, and Berne/Bern.

The Canton of Geneva, officially the Republic and Canton of Geneva, is one of the 26 cantons of the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of forty-five municipalities, and the seat of the government and parliament is in the city of Geneva.

The Territoire de Belfort (French pronunciation: [tɛʁitwaʁ də bɛlfɔʁ] ; lit. "Territory of Belfort") is a department in the northeastern French region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. In 2020, the population was 140,120. The department, which spans a relatively small surface area of 609.4 km (235.3 sq mi), is situated just southwest of the European Collectivity of Alsace. It also shares a border with the Swiss canton of Jura to the southeast. Its prefecture is Belfort.

Delémont (French pronunciation: [dəlemɔ̃]; Franc-Comtois: D'lémont; German: Delsberg, [ˈdeːlsˌbɛrɡ] ) is the capital of the Swiss canton of Jura. The city has approximately 12,000 inhabitants as of 2013.

Canton of Basel-Landschaft or Basel-Country, informally known as Baselland or Baselbiet (/ˌbɑːzəl ˈlændʃɑːft/; German: Kanton Basel-Landschaft [ˈkantɔn ˌbaːzl̩ ˈlantʃaft] ; Romansh: Chantun Basilea-Champagna; French: Canton de Bâle-Campagne [bɑl.kɑ̃.paɲ]; Italian: Canton Basilea Campagna), is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of five districts and its capital city is Liestal. It is traditionally considered a "half-canton", the other half being Basel-Stadt, its urban counterpart.

Basel-Landschaft is one of the northernmost cantons of Switzerland. It lies essentially south of the Rhine and north of the Jura Mountains. The canton shares borders with the canton of Basel-Stadt to the north, the canton of Aargau to the east, the canton of Solothurn to the south and the canton of Jura to the west. It shares international borders as well with France and Germany to the north.
