Calvin University in the context of Christian Reformed Church in North America

Alvin Carl Plantinga (born November 15, 1932) is an American analytic philosopher and theologian who works primarily in the fields of philosophy of religion, epistemology (particularly on issues involving epistemic justification), and logic.

From 1963 to 1982, Plantinga taught at Calvin University before accepting an appointment as the John A. O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. He later returned to Calvin University to become the inaugural holder of the Jellema Chair in Philosophy.

Cornelius Van Til (May 3, 1895 – April 17, 1987) was a Dutch-American Reformed theologian, who is credited as being the originator of modern presuppositional apologetics. Van Til and his work heavily influenced Christian reconstructionist theologians like Greg Bahnsen and R.J. Rushdoony.

He graduated from Calvin College and received his PhD from Princeton University, where he taught before co-founding and teaching at Westminster Theological Seminary until his retirement.

The Society of Christian Philosophers (SCP) was founded in 1978. The society is open to anyone interested in philosophy who considers himself or herself a Christian. Membership is not restricted to any particular "school" of philosophy or to any branch of Christianity, nor to professional or academic philosophers. Terence Cuneo of the University of Vermont is currently President of the SCP, Justin McBrayer of Fort Lewis College is Executive Director, and Kevin Timpe of Calvin University is Treasurer.

Meetings of the society are regularly held in conjunction with the American Catholic Philosophical Association, the Eastern, Central, and Pacific Divisions of the American Philosophical Association, and the Canadian Philosophical Association, and at the World Congress of Philosophy. The society also publishes a quarterly journal, Faith and Philosophy, which addresses philosophical issues from a Christian perspective.
