Burdur Province in the context of "Afyon Province"

Lycia (/ˈlɪsiə/; Lycian: 𐊗𐊕𐊐𐊎𐊆𐊖 Trm̃mis; Greek: Λυκία, Lykia; Turkish: Likya) was a historical region in Anatolia from 15–14th centuries BC (as Lukka) to 546 BC. It bordered the Mediterranean Sea in what is today the provinces of Antalya and Muğla in Turkey as well some inland parts of Burdur Province. The region was known to history from the Late Bronze Age records of ancient Egypt and the Hittite Empire.

Lycia was populated by speakers of Luwic languages. Written records began to be inscribed in stone in the Lycian language after Lycia's involuntary incorporation into the Achaemenid Empire in the Iron Age. At that time (546 BC) the Luwian speakers were displaced as Lycia received an influx of Persian speakers.

Burdur is a city in southwestern Turkey. The seat of Burdur Province and of Burdur District, it is located on the shore of Lake Burdur. Its population is 95,436 (2021).

Ağlasun is a town in Burdur Province in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. It is the seat of Ağlasun District. Its population is 3,645 (2021). The mayor is Ali Ulusoy (AKP).

The town is 7 km from the ruins of the ancient city of Sagalassos, from which it gets its modern name.

Isparta Province (Turkish: Isparta ili) is a province in southwestern Turkey. Its adjacent provinces are Afyon to the northwest, Burdur to the southwest, Antalya to the south, and Konya to the east. Its area is 8,946 km, and its population is 445,325 (2022). The provincial capital is Isparta.

The province is well known for producing apples, sour cherries, grapes, roses and rose products, and carpets. The best fertile lands are in Uluborlu. The province is situated in the Göller Bölgesi (Lakes Area) of Turkey's Mediterranean Region and has many freshwater lakes.

Cibyra or Kibyra (Greek: Κίβυρα), also referred to as Cibyra Magna, was an Ancient Greek city near the modern town of Gölhisar, in Burdur Province. It lay outside the north-western limits of the ancient province of Lycia and was the chief city of an independent state known as Cibyratis. Since 2016 it has been included in the Tentative list of World Heritage Sites in Turkey.

Burdur District (also: Merkez, meaning "central") is a district of the Burdur Province of Turkey. Its seat is the city of Burdur. Its area is 1,567 km, and its population is 117,189 (2021).

Lake Burdur (Turkish: Burdur Gölü) is a large saline lake of tectonic origin, positioned at the frontier between Burdur and Isparta provinces in southwestern Turkey. It has an area of 250 km and a maximum depth variously reported at between 50 and 110 m. The water level in the lake fluctuates. Lake Burdur is also an important wetland site for many bird species and is designated a Ramsar site.

Lake Burdur is among the largest and deepest lakes in Turkey, located in the Turkish Lakes Region in south-western Anatolia (37°43′351′′ N, 30°10′878′′ E), within a closed basin. The catchment area is 6150 km. The average depth is 40 m and the maximum depth is 68 m. The maximum surface area is 140 km at an elevation of 854 m. It is salty and highly alkaline (pH 9.5) and it never freezes.

Ağlasun District is a district of the Burdur Province of Turkey. Its seat is the town of Ağlasun. Its area is 305 km, and its population is 7,652 (2021).

Denizli Province (Turkish: Denizli ili) (Turkish pronunciation: [deniz'ʎi iʎi]) is a province and metropolitan municipality of Turkey in Western Anatolia, on high ground above the Aegean coast. Neighbouring provinces are Uşak to the north, Burdur, Isparta, Afyon to the east, Aydın, Manisa to the west and Muğla to the south. It is located between the coordinates 28° 30’ and 29° 30’ E and 37° 12’ and 38° 12’ N. Its area is 12,134 km, and its population is 1,056,332 (2022). The provincial capital is the city of Denizli.
