Bocas del Toro Province in the context of Ngöbe-Buglé Comarca

Golfo de los Mosquitos, also called Mosquito Gulf, is a gulf of the Caribbean Sea on the north coast of Panama, extending from the Valiente Peninsula in Bocas del Toro Province, past the north coast of Veraguas to the Colón Province.

Historically this term included the Mosquito Coast which is further north in Nicaragua and Honduras, but in modern usage it refers only to the gulf off the coast of the Panamanian provinces of Bocas del Toro, Veraguas and Colón.

In Panama, a corregimiento is a subdivision of a district, which in turn is a subdivision of a province. It is the smallest administrative division level in the country; which is further subdivided into populated places/centres. As of 2012, Panama is subdivided into a total of 693 corregimientos, since several of these were created in the province of Bocas del Toro and the indigenous region (comarca indígena) of Ngäbe-Buglé.

The Ngäbe are an Indigenous people within the territories of present-day Panama and Costa Rica in Central America. The Ngäbe mostly live within the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca in the Western Panamanian provinces of Veraguas, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro. They also have five Indigenous territories in southwestern Costa Rica, encompassing 23,600 hectares: Coto Brus, Abrojos Montezuma, Conte Burica, Altos de San Antonio and Guaymi de Osa. In the early 21st century, there are approximately 200,000-250,000 speakers of the Ngäbere language.

Guaymí is an outdated name, derived by the Spanish colonists from the Buglere term for this people (guaymiri). Local newspapers and other media often alternatively spell the name Ngäbe as Ngobe or Ngöbe because Spanish does not contain the sound represented by ä, a low-back rounded a, slightly higher than the English aw in the word saw. Spanish speakers hear ä as either an o or an a. Ngäbe means "people" in their native language of Ngäbere. Numerous Ngäbe have migrated to Costa Rica in search of work on the coffee fincas. Ngäbere and Buglere are distinct languages in the Chibchan language family.

The Bokota, also called Bogotá or Bugleres, are an Indigenous people of Panama. They live in Bocas del Toro and north of Veraguas. As the 2010 Census, there were 26,871 Bogota living in Panama. They are the smallest tribe in Panama and live in the west of the country. Traditionally they spoke the Bokota language, a dialect of Buglere.

Ngäbe-Buglé (Spanish: [ˈŋɡoβe βuˈɣle]) is the largest and most populous of Panama's five comarcas indígenas. It was created in 1997 from lands formerly belonging to the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, and Veraguas. The capital is known as Buäbiti in Guaymí and Llano Tugrí in Spanish.

The Sixaola River (Spanish: Río Sixaola) is a river in southern Limón Province, Costa Rica. It flows from the Cordillera Talamanca to the Caribbean Sea northeast of Sixaola at 9°34′20″N 82°33′54″W / 9.57222°N 82.56500°W / 9.57222; -82.56500. The river's headwaters are part of the La Amistad International Park. For part of its length, the river forms the border between Limón Province, Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro Province, Panama.

An old railroad bridge that collapsed in 2017 spanned the river between Guabito, Panama, and Sixaola, Costa Rica. This bridge was a border crossing between Costa Rica and Panama and used by pedestrians when traveling between Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro. This bridge has now been dismantled.

Guabito is a corregimiento and town in the Changuinola District of the Bocas del Toro Province of Panama. It is a small town located directly across the Rio Sixaola from Sixaola, Costa Rica. An elevated former railroad grade and bridge connects Guabito to Sixaola. This border crossing is popular with tourists going between Costa Rica and Bocas del Toro, though few tourists stop in Guabito longer than necessary to clear Panamanian customs.

Guabito has a land area of 168.8 square kilometres (65.2 sq mi) and had a population of 8,387 as of 2010, giving it a population density of 49.7 inhabitants per square kilometre (129/sq mi). Its population as of 1990 was 11,125; its population as of 2000 was 14,366.

Bocas del Toro (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbokas ðel ˈtoɾo]), also known colloquially as Bocas Town, is the capital of the Panamanian province of Bocas del Toro and the district of Bocas del Toro. It is a town and a tourist resort located on the southern tip of Colón Island in the Bocas del Toro Archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. Bocas Town had 12,996 residents in 2008.

Bocas del Toro is served by Bocas del Toro "Isla Colón" International Airport which hosts daily commuter flights from and to Panama City and San José in neighboring Costa Rica.

Colón Island (Spanish: Isla Colón) is the northernmost and main island in the Bocas del Toro Archipelago located in Bocas del Toro Province, Panama. The capital city of the province, Bocas del Toro, is located on the island and is one of Panama's main tourist attractions with over 150,000 visitors per year and an 8% annual rate of growth in tourism.
