Aydın (/ˈaɪdɪn/ EYE-din; Turkish: [ˈajdɯn]; formerly named Güzelhisar; Greek: Τράλλεις [ˈtra.lis]) is a city in and the seat of Aydın Province in Turkey's Aegean Region. The city is located at the heart of the lower valley of Büyük Menderes River (ancient Meander River) at a commanding position for the region extending from the uplands of the valley down to the seacoast. The city forms the urban part of the Efeler district, with a population of 259,027 in 2022. Aydın city is located along a region which was famous for its fertility and productivity since ancient times. Figs remain the province's best-known crop, although other agricultural products are also grown intensively and the city has some light industry.

At the crossroads of a busy transport network of several types, a six-lane motorway connects Aydın to İzmir, Turkey's second port, in less than an hour, and in still less time to the international Adnan Menderes Airport, located along the road between the two cities. A smaller airport, namely Aydın Airport, is located a few kilometers in the South-East of Aydın. The region of Aydın also pioneered the introduction of railways into Turkey in the 19th century and still has the densest railroad network.

İzmir Province (Turkish: İzmir ili) is a province and metropolitan municipality of Turkey in western Anatolia, situated along the Aegean coast. Its capital is the city of İzmir, which is in itself composed of the province's central 11 districts out of 30 in total. To the west, it is surrounded by the Aegean Sea, and it encloses the Gulf of Izmir. Its area is 11,891 square kilometres (4,591 square miles), and its population is 4,462,056 (2022). Neighboring provinces are Balıkesir to the north, Manisa to the east, and Aydın to the south. The traffic code of the province is 35.

The region of Turkey, located along the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, is characterized by its climate, coastal geography, mountainous terrain, beaches, and numerous natural and archaeological sites. Extending over approximately 1,000 km (620 mi) kilometers of shoreline, it is frequently visited by both domestic and international tourists.

Among the archaeological points of interest are two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus; and the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus.

Efeler is a municipality and district of Aydın Province, Turkey. Its area is 124 km, and its population is 303,772 (2022). The district was established as a part of the 2013 local government reorganisation from the former central district of Aydın. The name Aydın was reserved for the metropolitan municipality.

Efeler is the plural of the title Efe and it refers to the irregular soldiers from the Aegean Region who fought during the Turkish War of Independence.

Aydın Çıldır Airport (IATA: CII, ICAO: LTBD) is an airport located southeast of the city of Aydın, in the Aydın Province of Turkey. DHMI has transferred the operation of this airport to Turkish Airlines for 20 years on 20 June 2012 after a public tender. Turkish Airlines Flight Academy has operated a flying school here since June 2013.

The Mycale Strait (Greek: Στενό της Μυκάλης; Turkish: Dilek Geçidi), also known as the Samos Strait, is a narrow strait separating the island of Samos (Greece) from Anatolia (Turkey) in the eastern Aegean Sea. At its narrowest point it is only 1.6 km wide; the narrowest between any Aegean island and Turkey. It is named after the nearby Mount Mycale on the Turkish mainland. The Dilek Peninsula-Büyük Menderes Delta National Park, located in the Kuşadası district of Aydın Province, is situated along the strait.

Manisa Province (Turkish: Manisa ili) is a province and metropolitan municipality in western Turkey. Its area is 13,339 km, and its population is 1,468,279 (2022). Its neighboring provinces are İzmir to the west, Aydın to the south, Denizli to the southeast, Uşak to the east, Kütahya to the northeast, and Balıkesir to the north. The city of Manisa is the seat and capital of the province. The traffic code is 45.

The Battle of Antioch on the Meander (also known as the Battle of Alaşehir) was a military engagement near Antioch-on-the-Meander between the forces of the Empire of Nicaea and the Seljuk Sultanate of Rûm. The Turkish defeat ensured continued Nicaean hegemony of the Aegean coast of Asia Minor. The Seljuk sultan, Kaykhusraw I, was killed on the field of battle. The battle took place near the modern town of Yamalak in Kuyucak district in Aydın Province.

Didim is a municipality and district of Aydın Province, Turkey. Its area is 424 km, and its population is 97,000 (2022). It is a popular seaside holiday resort on the Aegean coast of western Turkey, 123 km (76 mi) from the provincial capital city of Aydın. Didim is the site of the antique city of Didyma with its ruined Temple of Apollo.
