The Alhucemas Islands (Spanish: Islas Alhucemas, Arabic: جزر الحسيمة) are a group of three islets under Spanish sovereignty located in the Bay of Al Hoceima, in the Alboran Sea. They have historically been classified as "minor places of sovereignty" within the plazas de soberanía.

The islands are part of Spain's Plazas de soberanía and is under Spanish administration, however they are also claimed by Morocco as part of its territory alongside other Spanish overseas territories in Northern Africa.

Al Hoceima in the context of Rif

The Rif (Arabic: الريف), also called Rif Mountains, is a geographic region in northern Morocco. It is bordered on the north by the Mediterranean Sea and Spain and on the west by the Atlantic Ocean, and is the homeland of the Riffians and the Jebala people. This mountainous and fertile area is bordered by Cape Spartel and Tangier to the west, by Berkane city and the Moulouya River to the east, by the Mediterranean to the north, and by the Ouergha River to the south. The Rif mountains are separated into the eastern Rif mountains (Nador, Driouch, Al Hoceima) and western Rif mountains (Tangier, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Taounate).

Al Hoceima in the context of Al Hoceima National Park

Al Hoceima National Park (Arabic: المنتزه الوطني للحسيمة, Tarifit: Afrag Anamur n Lhusima) is a national park located outside the town of Al Hoceima in Morocco. It covers an area of 480 km (185 sq mi), including 196 km (76 sq mi) of sea. The park was created in 2004 and is managed by the Haut-Commissariat des eaux et forêts et de la lutte contre la désertification.
